What it would entail is switching the front cover from an 89 and replacing it with an 86-88, that has the mechanical OMP. The problem is that the mechanical pump has to have a rod that goes to the throttle linkage to moderate how much oil is injected. I'm not sure any benifits or pitfalls of wiring it open (it's something to look into). That's where the "if your good" part comes in. You would have to fabricate some kind of linkage for the rod.

That's all I can tell you really. I don't know what's needed or anything and I don't need to do it. I'm sure someone else can help you a little better if you post something.

That would be a bit harder on an FD. One the mounts for the OMP are way different. Two the oil pan bolt pattern on the front cover of the FD is way different and the oilpan lip would need to be extended. Three you'd have to use the older waterpump/housing, modify the alternator slighty (to fit on an older waterpump housing). And four you'd have to ditch the new crank trigger system for an older distributer type and all that.

Unless you're just adapting the older Mechanical pump to the 93 front cover or you have a bunch of money and don't care what the other guy does. There also might be clearance issueswith stuff underneath the cover with using an older front cover.

I can't remember where I bought it, I'm trying to find my receipts and stuff, but I have an adapter that was designed for rotary aviation applications that lets you use the electric omp, but adapts it to mechanically activated... Not quite sure on the details, but I know it works because I have it on my car... but I didn't hook it up, unfortunately. I've been meaning to look into this pump adapter thing because its pretty much the only part that I don't know what is going on with on my engine now that I've pulled my whole car apart I'm gonna call my mechanic tonight and ask him about it, then I'll let ya'll know.

That's an 88 convertible. He had the mechanical pump and added that kit to allow the oil metering pump to use 2 cycle oil. I just removed my pump and now run premix. I just have to make sure I always have enough 2 cycle oil.
