poured diesel fuel into my 7

yeah... i accidently poured liek 2 gallons of diesel in my rx7... and it doesn't seem to like it. Anyone know how bad this is for the motor? I'll never use gas from unmarked containers again. ^_^

well, dilute it as much as you can. Since diesel has a very very high flash point, it cant really combust at the compressions our engines run at, i suggest you run out and get some regular low grade octane to thin out the diesel.

I don't know what the results of running this through the combustion cycle would be, but I would first siphon as much as possible out of the tank, then do whatever else you plan to do.

oh yea, i forgot about that, the best thing to do is to drain your fueltank. There is a plug on the bottom side to do this. Then fill the tank up with regular gas and you should be fine.

Put a match down there so it burns it up OR unscrew the gas tank drain plug and empty everything out into a big gulp cup and become a fire breather.

ok, sarcasm-dar was on vacation. but you know that you can actualy put out small flames by pouring deisel on them however that vapors in the tank would be another storry.

y aknow this makes me wonder if there have ever been experiments in deisel rotaries.

yea, rotaries love detonation. actually, i don't know what makes diesel engines handle it so well.
i almost put diesel in at the pump once. i'm not used to having two choices; most places its just grab and pump. good thing the diesel pump has a different sized nozzle.

Rotary Power International, Inc. to Display Engines at Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show
The world's first Rotary Marine Diesel Powered Engine produced by Rotary Power International will be unveiled at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show Oct 31 - Nov 4 2002. Rotary Power International has recently been financially and managerially restructured to bring the Rotary Engine to the Marine and Power Generation Markets.

Rotary Power International, Inc. (“RPI”) is pleased to announce it will be displaying the world’s only diesel fueled marine rotary engines at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show between October 31, and November 4, 2002.

Henry Gonzalez COO states, “This show represents several firsts for RPI. It will be the first time we have displayed our engine independently in an international boat show. We will soon be starting production of the first diesel fueled marine rotary engine in the world. In January, we introduced RPI's diesel fueled marine rotary engine at the Seattle Boat Show with Safe Boats International, LLC (“Safe Boats”). Since that time the engine has been successfully sea tested. We will be displaying an entire line of engines in our own booth. The response we have received worldwide since Seattle indicates that there is a great deal of anticipation and excitement from the marine world for our unique engine.”

The following statement is from the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show’s website, "The 43rd Annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show®, displays more than a billion dollars' worth of boats, yachts, and accessories from every major marine manufacturer worldwide. It is the world's premier venue for super yachts."

Rotary Power International, Inc. will have a 20 x 20 foot booth at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show. It will display a 250 HP 2 rotor 70 series engine, a 500 HP 4 rotor 70 Series engine and a 1000 HP 2 rotor 580 series engine. Video footage of the Safe Boats tests as well as rotor demonstrations and engine components will be on display. Several RPI employees will be available to answer questions. The booth, #1263, is in an excellent location across from the food concession.

RPI and Sterling Marine Systems will have a 250 HP rotary engine in a 25 foot center console SeaVee Jet Drive boat for test drives at the show. Sterling Marine Systems is the distributor for Hamilton Jet Drives for Florida and Georgia and together with RPI Sterling Marine Systems hopes to develop a unique power package of rotary engines combined with jet drives for boats. This winning combination of light weight and shallow draft is extremely attractive to builders of RIBS (rigid inflatable boats) commonly used in yachts for tenders and also commonly used by the military. RPI's engines currently have a power range between 150 HP and 3,000 HP.

The weird thing is, Rotary Power International's site is gone. Not down. Gone. Guess they went under...

yeah. diesel won't ignite from a flame but any gas vapors and boom. luckily diesel won't hurt a gas engine, but on the other hand, gas will detonate a diesel. Just drain it the best you can and dilute the rest like everyone else said, it might run shitty for a bit but won't damage anything. oh yeah, replace your fuel filter as well, and the rex should be good as gold.

yeah, i did it cuz i was really low on gas... and we had this container with this "fuel" in it. So i used it. And it would not idle below 2000RPM. So i thought it was bad/old fuel. So then i drove around looking for a gas station while holding the gas pedal constantly at 2500. And diluted it the rest of the way with regular fuel. It wasn't until the next day that i found out it was diesel... my brother was using it to clean our shop tools. ^_^ but it idles now... but very bumpity bumpity. Oh, it also makes me boost a bit more too. I have never seen my boost level off from the wastegate opening before... was kinda worried at first, but figured... ah, it's a bit higher than usual... heh. but the car also smokes like crazy when cold. when i go from a stop light... i smoke so much that the car behind me can't be seen. ^_^ smoke screen baby!!!

I would definately think about sending your injectors off to be tested and cleaned now.

Hmm - parts cleaner fluid in the tank. Ouch..
Replace pump pickup strainer.
Replace fuel filter.
Clean injectors.

Don't do that again!

What makes diesels handle detonation so well? Everything is forged, not cast

Kinda has to be when you're running 18:1-20:1 compression with a blower

A friend of mine had his Ford filled at a service station a couple of years ago. The attendant put diesel in, stopped and filled it the rest of the way with gasoline, but didn't tell him what he had done. The car barely made it home. Checked the car out and detected an unusual odor. Pulled and cleaned out tank and lines. Car fine after that, plus received compensation from station.
