Porting
is it possible for a dumbass like me to port my own engine?
also, can you take porting to different extremes? can i make them bigger, for more power, but not so much that i get bad gas mileage and it last awhile?

If you have limited mechanicle skills or have never worked as a mechanic, i would not recomend porting your own engine. I can imagine how difficult it must be. I would save yourself the anger and frustration and have someone else do it or wait untill the eingine dies. I have rather limited mechanicle skills and have never been a mechanic, but enjoy working on my own car. I ported my wastegate on my turbo and replaced my stock turbo with a s5 one and it was a difficult task for me to accomplish of corse luckily it is now done and works great, but it took a lot of effort.

I just recieved the porting templates I ordered from racing beat a week ago. They are a "street port" but they only give you the secondary template, and exhaust template.......what the heck? I thought they'd give me both secondary and primary, I know the secondary are the most important, but couldnt the primes be beefed up as well? Oh well, good luck with the porting, it helps to have a nice hang style motor with 1/2 shank, and foot control to do the grinding with. A air tool is a little on the loud side, and the compressor has to do alot of work too.

I ported my engine. I am still finishing up somethings ie. turbo and stuff. But anyways it fairly easy, I got tired of consentrating after awhile but a beer can help that. Go for it, because once your all back together you'll be happy you did.
