Porting
is it possible for a dumbass like me to port my own engine?
also, can you take porting to different extremes? can i make them bigger, for more power, but not so much that i get bad gas mileage and it last awhile? |
If your such a dumbass will you be able to reassemble it "properly"?? Search man....
hint: mazdatrix and racing beat sell templates. |
man every topic you start has so much about it in the search feture. I usally dont tell people to search but you really need to
|
oh, then hell no i couldnt reassemble it.....ok, that answers part of my question, does anyone know about the different sizes off the ports and stuff?

If you have limited mechanicle skills or have never worked as a mechanic, i would not recomend porting your own engine. I can imagine how difficult it must be. I would save yourself the anger and frustration and have someone else do it or wait untill the eingine dies. I have rather limited mechanicle skills and have never been a mechanic, but enjoy working on my own car. I ported my wastegate on my turbo and replaced my stock turbo with a s5 one and it was a difficult task for me to accomplish of corse luckily it is now done and works great, but it took a lot of effort.

I dunno porting isnt that tough. I havent done it to a rotary but I did a bunch on a 302. Just dont rush it, If you do you will screw up. Im doing my engine in the coming weeks

I just recieved the porting templates I ordered from racing beat a week ago. They are a "street port" but they only give you the secondary template, and exhaust template.......what the heck? I thought they'd give me both secondary and primary, I know the secondary are the most important, but couldnt the primes be beefed up as well? Oh well, good luck with the porting, it helps to have a nice hang style motor with 1/2 shank, and foot control to do the grinding with. A air tool is a little on the loud side, and the compressor has to do alot of work too.

Originally posted by projekt you can port a 302 while the block is in the car. you don't een have to remove the pistons. to port a rotary, everything has to come apart. Sorry I misread that! Nevermind! |

well yes you just have to remove the heads but the porting part is the same deal. and back to rotaries im in the middle of a rebuild so I already have it apart

I ported my engine. I am still finishing up somethings ie. turbo and stuff. But anyways it fairly easy, I got tired of consentrating after awhile but a beer can help that. Go for it, because once your all back together you'll be happy you did.
