Port Actuator Rods - Different?

Are the actuator rods different from series to series?

I know in the S4 they are ACTIVATED reverse, but that doesn't necessarily mean the rods are different...

Also I'm guessing the turbo rods within the same series would be the same right? Not a different length or anything?

I'll translate...

N/A engines are 6 port. 4 main + 2 auxilliary (actuator opened)

Turbo engines are 4 port. 4 main + 0 auxilliary (no actuators/rods)

Let me be the first to say,

;p lol

OK! So are the actuator rods different between S4 and S5? ;D

The part numbers for the S5 rods (not the actuators) are N350-13-B80A (front one), and N351-13-B80A for the rear. If someone can get you the part numbers for the S4, you’ll know.

they are indeed different

I was trying to swap s5 manifolds onto a s4 once and noticed that

Yes they are a little different. The rods themselves are physically the same length and will directly fit from manifold to manifold. The difference comes into play at the pin where the actuator hooks onto. There is a small sort of triangular flat piece here that is what stops the actuator rods from turning any farther. This is shaped different between the year models. This actually isn't that big of a deal and is easy to fix. I successfully adapted the GSL-SE actuator rods onto an S5 manifold and had little issue with this area. The hard part was that the GSL-SE actuators work just like the S4 actuators. When I transplanted the rods to the S5 manifold, the groove that rotates the sleeve was at the wrong angle. I figured that since it was a backwards system that I could use the front rod in the rear and vice versa. This in fact does line up this way. However a new problem surfaced. The groove in the rod is cut so that it only fits over the rod in the sleeve only one way. They made it fool proof to install the sleeves backwards and still work. The solution to this was to take the pins out of the rotating sleeves and install them in exactly 180 degrees opposite. Now the grooves fit them and they rotate properly.

As a review on how to adapt them. Take the S4 rods and install them in the S5 manifold. Make sure to reverse them though by installing the front rod from the S4 to the back on the S5 manifold and vice versa during the transplant. This step is done. Install the standard S5 actuators. Take the sleeves out of the engine. Remove the rod that crosses the airflow path and reinstall them backwards. They need to be pressed. Reinstall the sleeves. You're all set. Everything is opposite for a transplant to the earlier year manifolds.
