one time my alternator went out and i was stranded on the sidfe of the road i slept in my car and locked the doors from inside the little alarm light kept flashing, then the morning came and i unlocked my door and the light stayed on then i opened it and nothing happened until i closed the door thats when the factory alarm went off, and the only way to turn it off is with the key at least that is on my car, but i never lock it at night because it likes to randomly go off about 3 oclock in the morning if i do, i only lock it if i go to the mall or anywhere but my house.

They make locks that go over the quick release steering hub. I like this cause it seems like if someone towed the car away they'd have to replace the steering column to get any joy out of the thing.

Best I have found and heard of is quick release wheel+removing main relay. Turn the wheel all the way so it locks and then remove it. Even with the locking plate a clever theif with a set of tool can remove the hub and replace it with another wheel but you can't bump, jump, or push start one without the main relay. Turn the wheels and lock the hub so it they have a hard time towing in with a wrecker and dollies. Flat bed is impossible with out dollies, especially when its in gear.

My theft deterrent system was tested two months ago:
1. Doors left open, so they don't break anything.
2. Circuit Opening Relay removed so it turns over but without fuel.
The pieces of society actually screwed the ignition switch off the barrel (didn't break the screw) and jammed a screw driver in the switch wrecking it. It didn't start though (the battery was flat when I got to it so they might have tried all night).
Now I've got another ignition switch and it comes with me at night.
I think that gets the message through to a would be thief that they will not be taking the car. (Unless they move the Honda Legend first then tow it...)

Some bad guy broke into my garage where I keep my FC- Sumbitch left another one and now I have two...
But seriously, on my Vert, I never lock the doors and I never leave anything in that is worth being stolen- oem stereo etc. This way there is no reason for anyone to cut the top, break a window or jimmy the door lock.
I also have a fuel cut-off switch that is expressly for theft control.
If someone tows the car, then I become a victim.
That's the best I can do.
I'm not losing any sleep over it.

Thats so creative!!! ... too bad cars have electricity ALREADY going through the frame... Ever heard of a negative battery cable?? Anything he did sounds like a short in the wiring AKA a good way to start an electrical fire. Your teacher sounds like a real smart guy...

kill switch. when i bought my car there was a kill switch that i did not know of so i accidently switched it on somehow and left my car. when i got back car wouldn't start (fuel pump shutted off). This was a week after i just bought the car so i was very depressed. After my friends mechanic dad showed up i finally figured out there was a kill switch haha. so the moral of the story is that if it took me that long to find out where the kill switch was, then a thief wouldn't even bother. but then thieves would go after civics instead neways :]

Don't know if it's been listed yet, but... An aftermarket steering wheel with a quick relase hub... take it with you... leave the keys... they will probably flood it trying to pull out anyway, seenig that you got that stage 3 clutch!

The best alarm systems disable starter, fuel, and ignition.
Fuel cut-off swich.
Coil switch tapped as close to the ECU as possible
Starter switch tapped in close to the starter solenoid.
In case they tow your girl...
Engrave your initials in all parts that could be useful. They don't have to be visible, just know where they are. If someone parts out the car, you go packing and looking for them.
Cut off some fingers first to find out who else is involved, then have some fun.

I know where to get a very nasty shocker for $3.50. Only 2-3 leads to wire up. I'm just worried about what it might do to the car's electronics, especially since it's AC and can also put out decent enough current. I've burnt a pinhead-size black spot in my finger before.
And, btw, tazer volts are just for advertising hype and to give it a few millimeters of range. If the tazer can't handle the current then its voltage will drop very low when you actually shock someone. Otherwise 1,000V could kill a person and even 120 is dangerous.

I know it's a theft-deterrent alarm.. but does it actually cut power to the starter and prevent the car from starting? If it did, it should be called anti-theft alarm (not theft-deterrent). My alarm did not work when I tested it, by lowering the driver window and locking the car, then unlocking it through the window (although my security light on my center console flashes occasionally, so it's like a pretend alarm).

I think Red Green from the Red Green Snow (on PBS) came up with the best solution for anyone wanting to keep their car nice:
