Try it and find out. It should hold up fine, but if not, you can buy a better brand of header.

It won't melt off the car if you do the water 'trick'. Just keep an eye on the header, if it looks like it is getting too hot, then let it cool, it's that simple.

Wow. Unlucky you.

Anyway. The pacesetter header was dynoed out to have lossess thru the whole RPM range. It's also louder and rusts out completely in no time flat (at least here at the NE Coast)

A few cars with them have come by the garage here, and well, they're utter garbage. Go back to the stock manifold is my reccomendation. :O

Doing the "water trick" has never made anything of mine glow red. Running full time water injection at the _proper quantity/atomization_ does NOTHING to your exhaust gas tempretures.

(THIS IS A THEORY OF MINE, NOT PROVEN: Just dumping water through a vac line in an un-meatered amount would cause the active octane rating to increase (like running an engine way too rich or the timing ultra retarted) that will then cause the flame front to burn longer, exiting the exhaust port and continue to combust and thus more combustion occuring outside of the engine. Thus making the exhaust glow red)

I'm sure your header can 'handle' the 'water trick' and if it can't, you should throw it away anyway.

Good luck.

JETHOT coating for a pacesetter header: $150, and the thing still doesnt preform.
Racing Beat header, used; $115 to $150. (Triple chrome plated mild steel)

. . . I wonder

I've ran a pacesetter for almost two years and have had no problems. It didn't even rust in the winters Its been through and I live in Salt Lake City. The car has gotten more rust that in did in the time. As for a power loss... no way. I ran it around the block a few times before I sold it and installed the stock manifold to sell the car. After taking it around the block with the stock manifold and presilencers. There is a big loss top end and its almost gutless when downshifting w/o it. Its two mandrel bent tubes that go to a 3" collector. Just how different could the RB? Atleast the Pacesetter will bolt to the stock cat.

I have a Pacesetter header as well...this is the second RX-7 I have put it on. It mounted into place just perfectly for me the first time, but I had a Bonez cat-back exhaust on already, and it was too long to bolt into place with the cats. So, I took the cats off, and drove the damn thing open pipe to Salinas about 10 miles away to a muffler shop where a friend of mine made me a straight pipe. What a trip that was!

I just put it on my second RX-7 about a month ago and it fits into place just fine with the stock exhaust. Of course, you'll have to remove the two pre-cats, but the main cat will still be there, and there seems to be enough back-pressure to open my 5th and 6th port valves....but I never have had to remove the subframe, and I have installed, removed, and installed again with no clearance issues.

I would like to eventually get a RB header, but I too bought this thing a couple years ago before I heard about Racing Beat and I only paid like $130 with tax and shipping. I got no quarrels with Pacesetter, but I would like to get a RB header sometime and get a beautiful exhaust front to back.

Performance, though? As stated above, they're both made out of two pipes running into one. What's the difference?

Edit: sorry, info on my cars: first was an '87 GXL, current is '88 GXL. I know, I know, both N/A, but my next WILL be a TurboII, I promise!

i think the pacesetter header has unequal length pipes before the collector. this could mean maybe 2% power loss compared to an equal length header in my opinion. also if the pipes are too long the header will not perform well at higher rpms. sdj (i think its sdj) makes some pretty nice headers but they cost $$$$$.
