I have an 87 s4 turbo, it seems that when I have my windows down I get a bad smell of petrol. Is this normal and if not any idea's?

 

its probally old cat not doing its job and now you smell what you smell its not uncommon for an rx7 to smell that way... if you dont have a cat then it should always smell that way

 

check your fuel rails for leaks. the pulsation damper on the 86-88 fuel rails fail way to often. which will leak fuel onto your exhuast and start a fire under the hood...

thosands have burned from this...

 

I had a fuel smell issue that I checked out this weekend.. pulsation damper had failed.. I'm grateful to this web board for it's emphasis on this problem.. If I didn't know what to look for, I might have driven the car longer while trying to figure out the source of the smell.

thanks all.. Now I need to check into what's required to go to the Series 5 fuel rail and if it's worth it..

 

Unfortunatly I'm a newbie can any one tell me what a pulsation damper/fuel rail looks like or if some one has a pic of one?
