GTUs to jspec TII, good idea or blasphemy?

alright, in the next couple of months i want to buy a second gen rx7,preferably a TII, but have had problems finding a series five for really cheap. so what i was thinking was getting an n/a and swapping the engine; can get one really cheap and got a bud who can do the install for me. anway, if i'm lucky i'll find a gtus and do the swap on that because i'd like to have the handling of gtus with the power of a TII. anyway, just like the title says, blasphemy or a blessing?

I say do whatever you want to it. The whole point of modifying your car is to make it "yours". If you can do the swap, go for it. If you decide to supercharge it, hey, that's all good. If you want to leave it alone, sweet. Just don't put neons on it, IMHO.

haha, no definately no neons. i plan to make this into a second car that i can run on track days and if i can avoid the police, take out on the weekends to thrash little hondas. don't think i'd supercharge it either, would rather have a turbo(spool-up is just so much cooler). rudeboy, is the whole rearend stronger or are you just talking about the lsd that comes with the TII? i heard it's not that great anyway so i might just swap it out for like a kaaz unit. it'd also be a lot cheaper to just buy a beat up gxl or gtu anyway.

T II retro-fit is popular

BUT, if you try to change a GTU-s in any way, retro-fit or no, we will find you, hunt you down, you won't be able to hide.

To do such a thing to a GTU-s would be beyond blasphamy and could lead to banishing you to driving a '85 Civic automatic with 6 inch exhaust, bad paint job, 3 foot high aluminum wing, neon lights in the wheel wells. and stickers on the side saying "Powered by Hasbro".

dude if your getting an s5 just get a t2 i know your gonna get it cheap but your quote says turbo power with gtus handling WELL contrary to popular belief a GTUs is a turbo with out the turbo meaning it has the turboII suspension so just get an s5 t2 and you have the handling of a turbo in an already turbo car

I gotta agree, a GTU has the Turbo suspension, just no turbo. I say just get a T2.

Whatever you do, please don't bastardize a GTUs. If you want lightweight, buy an 86 base model. Swap everything out of that, 4pot brakes, TII drivetrain, and add a complete aftermarket suspension. That way, you'll have a nice car and I won't have to join HOZZMANRX7 in tracking you down and correcting your wrongs

just a thought

I bought a 90 GTU thinking it was the highest performance model next to a T2. (I was confused with the 86-88 GTU) Basically the T2 w/o the turbo and w/o alot of weight. So, if I was you I would run the GTUs as a track car/street car. They are great handlers with great brakes and is more reliable than a turbo (good for a track car). Feel lucky to have the GTUs. If I saw you one the street I might wanna trade you straight up=)
You can take these cars to very high levels of track performance with or without a turbo.
Just a thought.

alright, before you guys hunt me down and hang me, let me retract the some previous statements. i thought maybe you all would hate me for asking, so i asked, just in case. i didn't know the gtu shares the same suspension, so that simplyfies things a little for me. i've found a gtus for 2500 but i don't have that right now and it won't last for long, so it'll probably end up being a gtu swap. i know it GTUs is a pure track car, but i have this itch for boost, i love it so much. to me a shift sounds incomplete without a pssht in between, followed by wicked spool-up. however, the reliability of a nonturbo is attractive. hozzman, do i get an APC sticker with that honda? that would just complete the package. you guys are forgetting how hard it is to find a S5 TII for cheap, maybe i'm looking in the wrong places

High 5's the KAI man.

And, regarding:

I say **** 'em all off and just throw in a V-TEC.
and
how about a chevy 350?

So long as these don't mess with a GTUs, I might be presuaded to suspend with the razors and lemon juice But, not sure how my man KAI feels about boiger blasphamy. So, I'd advise you don't sit at the bar with your back to the door.

hehe, never in my life would i drop a v8 or any piston engine in any rx7, EVER! this was just a thread mostly for fun, wasn't quite serious about the GTUs, just a thought. when i'm bored i write up crazy swaps and ****. like i've got about a whole page written down on what's needed to swap a 13B-REW into an MR2. i'm a little weird like that, however a jag Straight 6 just wouldn't be feasible or an intelligent decision in any way. repairs are already horrible, and on top of that i think jag's are way overrated. only the XJ220 is worth it, funny it's the only one i see with twin turbos on it, is it a sign?

Ok, I'll ask the moderators to NOT ban you. All is forgiven. Especially if you find me a GTUs 4.3 diff from a TOTALLY unsalvagable GTUs so the heart of that baby can live in my other Vert.
