performance differential

I am thinking about upgrading my GTU's rear end for better acceleration and loose some high end. Any suggestions for the swap?

The GTU rear end is the same as the TII (I think). Your saying you want to upgrade to aftermarket or were you thinking you had the GXL or SE rear end?

you are right

GTU does have the TII end. I am thinking about putting something even with lower gears. I do not drive the car for road trips so I dont care about the high end. I would like to get more quickness where it counts.

You're looking at big bucks. The 4.30 gear in the GTUs is the lowest bolt-in gear you're gonna find. You can adapt a 4.88 or 5.13 set. These sets are from the RX2 and 3. The difference is that the snout on the pinion gear is much shorter and needs to be cut in half and put back together with an extension. It's very precise work and thus expensive. A 5.13 set will run you close to $1000 just for the finished gear set. The 4.88s will be about $150-200 cheaper.

thanks for the great info. Forget that idea, save money for a FD I guess. Do you have any experience with dying and painting interiors?
thanks

Hmm GTU and T2 trannys are different. Even GTUs has teh GTU transmission, they have just better ratios. T2 diffs are much bigger compare to NAs

I went the other direction for fuel economy. I have become a little disgruntled with my NA and its performance potential. I went to the 3.90 and dumped the 4.10. My 1/4 mile went from a 15.0 to a 15.9 but I gained 6-8mpg. I would guess going the other direction to the 4.30's would produce a good incress in performance. maybe not as much as I lost but noticable. You also will seriously notice it at the pump.

GTU does NOT have a TII rear end (differential)

It is a regular NA differential. The GTUs has a viscous type differential, still NOT the same as the TII. 4.3 gears are available for the NA diff, they are the same as the GTUs gears. 4.3 gears are ALSO available for the TII, the are the same as the Infini- note that the part numbers are NOT the same.
