Passenger window stuck open

My passenger window is stuck open. I haven't had a chance to test the motor yet, but was wondering if you guys had any similar experiences.

I've tried both switches. With the key in the ACC position, all the warning lamps come on. When I hit up or down on the driver's side, the lights dim. That side works. On the passenger side, the lights dim when I hit down on either the passenger or the drivers switch. However, when I hit up on either switch, the lights don't dim at all.

Does this sound like bad switch contacts or something else?

With all this rain, that really sucks.

Check this thread for info on cleaning the switches: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-gen-archive-72/power-window-switch-write-up-766218/. It's probably a dirty contact, so start there.

Tell me about it. The window stuck the day is started raining, haha.

Luckily it's inside a shared garage with a cover on, so hopefully things are okay. I'm a little nervous about mold/mildew.

I saw that thread earlier while searching, but it seemed as if dirty contacts would be responsible for only one switch not working. They both stopped working at the same time.

Would dirty contacts on the driver's side switch stop the passenger side switch from working?

Thanks for the response!

Yes, it absolutely can. These (and the wiper switches) are about the epitome of retarded FC electrical systems. The passenger window actually requires that the current go through the normally closed switch contacts of the driver's side switch, as well as the passenger's side contacts. The FULL current that's supposed to flow through the window motor is supposed to flow through all those movable contacts..... amazing.

\After cleaning your dirty switch contacts, do this.

I recommend doing this with the highest I've ever recommended anything before! I just did it to my driver's side, and holy crap does that window fly up and down like it's brand new. Even with the engine off/key on, the battery alone is enough to get that window haulin' ***.

Mine use to do the same thing, especially when it was humid out. If I hit the switch hard it'd work. Ended up changing out the switch and it fixed it.

Haha I did check the little on/off switch

I will definitely take it out and clean out the contacts.

The relay system looks like it's a project for another day.

Speaking of the windshield wipers, mine only go at one speed and only in the "I" position, haha. I saw a writeup somewhere of a guy who ended up cutting out the wiper switch and rebuilding it. o_O

If you need to get the window up now, take off the door panel, unplug the plug between the window motor and switch, and use some jumper wires to hook a battery directly up to the window motor.

So I have an S5 switch and it looks nothing like what the writeup does. All of the contacts are soldered on the bottom straight to the pigtail. Perhaps the passenger side switch is the culprit?

Could be, but like the writeup said, the S5 switch is only slightly different. I'd go pull mine out and take some pictures, but mine works. If I take it apart, with my luck it'll never work again.

Just remove the screws and pull it all apart. Use a fine grit sandpaper and polish them up.

took apart the drivers side and cleaned it. I don't recommend it. It was a huuuuuuge pain in the butt to reassemble. The contacts on the passenger side were indeed very black, but in the process of cleaning them i lost one of the springs, haha. I have a spare passenger switch at home so i can either use that or one of the springs.

Got the window up by jumping the motor with the battery. At least that works okay, haha.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

Even though the thread is for an FD, the S5 window switch I took apart was more or less identical, apart from the springs being a different color.
