go for it man! the more i read about this the more i like it. especially for a drift or track **** or some broke teenager's (thats me!) daily driver.

you drift into a wall and scuff the entire left side of your car? (thats what us broke teenagers do) its 20 dollars to fix!
some girl who cant drive hits your bumper in a highschool/college parking lot? (a daily occurence) its 5 dollars to fix!
hit a giant rabid ferret while driving on the highway and rip your bumper off? (it could happen?) just get a new bumper and paint it for 10 dollars!

obviously its not going to be the best paint job in the world but its more original than flat black spray paint, cheaper and easier to redo than a normal job, better looking than mismatched panels or 20 year old faded to hell and back paint, and at the end of the day most of us (myself included) dont care THAT much about the paint on our <2000 car.

good luck basque and if you dont get pics i WILL kill you.

So, a friend of mine has an old early 90's honda SI hes using for a race car. He painted it with rustoleum and knew nothing about what 69chargeryeehaa did. Well, I was pretty shocked at how well it came out. It could have been better, but with the amount of work he put in, the paint looked great. Im telling everyone right now, that rustoleum paint is really high quality.
he didnt use the roller method, but insted put the paint in a spray gun. I dont even think he thined it, so he had some problems with sags running such a thick paint though the gun. But, im totally confident that with properly thining the paint, and taking some time with it, you can have really awesome results.

The thing that shocked me the most was how glossy the paint is! Its so shiny, probably more so than a lot of OEM paint jobs.

pretty sure the rustonoleum will #### up your spray gun, even with the mineral spirit, never tried it though.

I have seen the pictures.. I wanted to see an FC with it..lol..

This method can work.. So can Rattlecanning. But it is all about the amount of time. This method is VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY time consuming. It involves tons and tons of labor. I don't know about you but my time is worth something... I would rather prep the car Shoot it with a base coat, let it dry, then sand it again with a higher grade sandpaper then shoot it with another coat. bake it and then let it sit. That is a lot better then SAND, Roll on paint, Sand, roll on paint, sand, roll on paint, sand roll on paint, sand roll on paint, sand roll on paint, drink a beer and sand, roll on paint.......ect...

I have seen "complete" paint kits on ebay for 180+ like 30 buks shipping. Same company sells urethane candy paint kits for 300 and again 30 buks shipping. If I get enough cash, I am going to try these out.

I think this is the link..

ya I got a macco job when i was desperate, and its the worst thing i have done to my car! i wish i could undo it, and i was a lot more then 200, it was supposed to be one of there top end paint jobs, and it was complete ****! Over spray everywhere, exhaust, rims, all behind the grill, tire wells, the spare tire carrier. It was a nightmare even after a repaint it was still junk. And now less then 2 years later the paint is chipping, flaking and peeling away! Im sure it varies shop to shop but the Macco i went to in Vancouver, gave me the worst paint job ever! I will be redoing it myself this winter, and I KNOW I can do better then them. Sorry about the rant. Jay

heres a pic of my buddies SI with his rustoleum paint job. You would really need a closeup shot to see the detail. But he did this in his 1 car garage over a weekend.

If you click on the picture, it becomes super huge!

^^ Why are you so against this RRTEC? Let's see some results before you get so negative. Like many have said it takes a lot more time, but a lot less money, so if time is not a problem; like it is for you, then I know i'm happy.

i will eventually do it (like everyone else says) but i got a lot of body work left to do it. By reading the entire thread on the other forum i have conclude that getting the paint thined can be tricky and using 100% mineral spirits is essential.
I still not entirely convinced how well this paint will look, the pics look great but i got to see it in person so i guess i will give it a try.

You know for the money you probably cant beat this and as long as you are doing the work with care and patience it will be 10 times better than maaco and it will probably not last all that long but maaco only lasts a couple years anyway so still cheaper/better.

The guy who started this entire trend has had the same paint on his Charger for many years, it won't peel or fade like Macco.
