well, it's just taking a couple more coats of paint than expected, but it's fine. i bought the gallon of white so i have enough. that's my only grief for sanding it down so much. but man this stuff is tough, i got a little piece of trash caught in the sand paper and it started digging lines in the paint... but it didn't go thru at all. i sanded back over it and it's all good hahahaha

i appreciate the comments guys, i just finished wet sanding it and i'll put the final coats on tomorrow and then i'm taking it to a professional detailer to buff it out real nice

oh and yes i am using a siphon gun, i personally don't like using gravity fed guns simply because i feel like i have more control of the spray with a siphon. if that's what you have then it will work great. if i was spraying a metallic paint then i would use a gravity fed. the KEY to this coming out glassy looking and having lots of luster is getting the mineral spirits/paint ratio dead on. if it's just a tad too thick then it will still spray ok but will just be very tacky and flat looking. with the right amount of spirits it will spray on sooooo smooth and have a brilliant gloss to it... best part is that when it dries it STAYS that way! I LOVE THIS ****! ahahhaha

didn't have a chance to mess with doing the civic front bumper deal yet. that is still to come tho. i really could have done a much better job and i'll probably repaint the car a year from now using this same stuff. it's so strong and goes on great. i just need to prep better next time. i'm happy tho for now

I started doing this in Navy Blue rustoleum. I'm not sure if it looks like it's supposed to after the wet sanding... so attached are phots before wet sand on parts (haven't sanded yet)

Then the next reply has wet sanded parts... the hood was with 400 grit and the fender was with 800 grit (i didn't have any in-between paper

I have started my paintjob on a budget with rustoleum oil based enamel although I think I went a little further on the prep work than most. I used a stripper since my paint was flaking so bad and took the entire car down to base primer/metal. I removed most of the seals(going to all be replaced), front bumper, rear bumper, all lights(except headlights), inner door panels, hood, hatch. Mine is also a bit more expensive since I'm replacing seals but also I am going to add flakes to the final 4 coats of paint. Not sure how it is going to turn out but I wanted to try something different. It is going to be navy blue with House of Kolor mini gold flakes. I'll post pics once I start painting; I just started sanding today after spending most of the week getting all of the paint off the car.

When sanding, do you remove the paint first before sanding or does sanding with a low level grit take care of it? How hard do you rub and all that good stuff too? I'm new to all of this so I have no idea... =P

I actually used a stripper to remove what was left of my paint and took the entire car down to primer/metal then used 150 and 320 grit sandpaper to smooth it all out before starting to paint.

Stripper as in liquid, like a sort of paint thinner or something? I just tried sanding my wheels (painting them with wheel paint), and it took FOREVER to get the old...whatever it was...off. Like, an hour to do 2 spokes. Where can I get this stuff to remove this old paint (both off the car and wheels)?

You can buy it at walmart or any hardware store. Look in the paint section and it is actually called "stripper". Make sure you get one that works on metal. Usually you brush or wipe it on and then have to wait 15-30 min for it to start bubbling up the paint then just use a paint scraper or small stiff squeegie to remove the paint. Hope that helps

hi guys,

ive been doing this project for about amonth now. i also used the stripper on the car. Its called Klean strip ks3 premium Stripper . I just paste it on and in about 15 minutes the paint just bakes off and then i just scrape it off. I primered the car with rustloneum , and already painted it today with rustloneum semi gloss black. It looks nice so far. about one more coat to go with wet sand. I have a question, when I wet sand its hard to get the sanding evenly and it makes the paint go really dull and uneven? is that normal? Im using 400 grit when i did the first wet sand on the 2 coats. whatabout when you wet sand after the third coat with the 1500 grit, will it make it dullish too? or will it actualy buff it out

pics coming soon when i find my charger

i have a question, did you prep your car? or are you just painting over the original paint? can you really do that? just paint over original paint?

also your wet sand job is similar to mines too on teh first 2 coats, except i only wet sanded in one direction.

i did 1000, then 1500, then went at it with 3m scratch remover for 1200 grit polish.
and just wash your hands in goof off or some other toxic chemical.

So our paint should look dull after the wet sand? did you use a sanding block or anything to make the job a little easier?

Also, my my mixture took my paint to the consistency of water. It still made almost perfect coverage on the first coat. It also ran when I put it on the fenders, so it wasn't too thick (according to the write-up from page 1). Also, that blue that's on my parts should be really close to black.

Is my lighter blue a lack of coats or an abundance of thinner?

you should darken up by coat 4.
and it should look dull after a wet sand, since your making tons small scratches.
I used hand sanding over the whole car, since thats what the write up said to do.

Alrite then, so just keep going at it... When you put the paint on your doors, did it run when you first applied the roller to it? Did it run at all after rolling it out a bit, like, create a small amount of drippage that you had to roll over once or twice more to keep it from coming back?

I'll be doing another wetsand this weekend and adding 2 more coats, then wet sanding again on Sunday and adding the last two coats. I just wanna make sure I'm on the right path.

i think you should thicken it up a bit, runs will just make an uneven surface.
