Pacesetter header?

OK who has used a pacesetter header? I have the ability to get a new one VERY CHEEP and I am just thinking that it may be worth it to buy the cheepr brand pacesetter n/a header for now over a racing beat because I have a feeling since both are made from mild steel that they stand the same chance of durability etc

any other opinions?

Dave

You've seen Pacesetter stuff before, haven't you? I'm not really sure why someone would actually WANT one over a RB piece. Your thinking is way off, no offense.

Owning a pacesetter header made me wish that I had just spent the extra 100 bucks and bought the racing beat one.

I think their welder is a 7 year old armless boy, you might as well grind them off and start over. They are that bad.

the black paint that there painted with is only good for keepn the rust off during storage and will burn off in a day and start rusting u can sand it down with 120 grit to strip the paint. then paint it with super high temp ceramic paint put a few light layers of paint on then let it cure in the oven at 400 for a few hours with the door open. when u set it in the oven try to let it touch as lil as u can bcs the paint stick after it cures.. so set it on the flanges. the paint should last at least for a while im going on 4 years and they still look good as new

there has been tests that have shown that the pacesetter headers actually make LESS power than the stock piece. don't even bother with them, it's the crapiest brand of parts out there, I wouldn't even get one for my 89 corolla.

I think it is important to know some specific details about this issue.

Thanks!
I challenged this last time and I will again. I am not disagreeing with the statement because I don't have direct knowledge, just asking for proof that this is not an old-wives tale.

In the general interest of the board and for promoting the budget modding of RX7s everywhere, links, please!

pacesetter is POO!

I don't know about actually LOSING horsepower over the stock manifold, you'll probably gain lots of power especially 2-3 weeks after install when the welds break and you have a /very/ open exhaust!

Yes, we need some proof on thoses , pacesetter makes less hp claims. I got one when i got the car so i would like to see if this is really true.

well I figured it out and the pacesetter header is 1/16" steel where the racing beat is 1/8" so yeah I sguess I will go with racing beat if I get a header

I have had the Pacesetter on my s4 for 2 years and its rusted but the wields are holding up. I am planning on replacing it with a RB header. I noticed an improvement over the stock manifold but i lost a little bit of low end power. If i could do it over again i would go RB.

I have one and its been 4 years going on 5 with NO issues. Ive had it cherry red a few times also. I think its pretty durable. I have no rust on it neither, its powdered coated. BUT I only drive it in the summer.

I have had both. On my '88 GXL NA, I had the stock first, then swapped to PaceSetter. I actually liked it, now I didn't have any other exhaust mods, just the header so it was probably different than running it with open or aftermarket cat back. I thought it sounded great, really cool sound effects, mild when crusin but she screamed when you opened her up. Yeah, the paint burnt off but I never had a problem with the headers, dirtcheap too.
I don't believe those claims of less horsepower from installing these headers. maybe that was due to something else such as vehicle maintenence or human error,,,,,my car felt wonderful with these headers installed. I would like to see the adata that supports these claims.

On my '87 TII I have the racing beat downpipe, I like it alot. It looks nice, though is turniong kinda grey by the turbo. It is thicker and didn't rust right away like the pacesetter, the tone is bearable, i think i have a small exhaust leak anyways, so... Both are probably better with stock, certainly much much lighter anyways.

I'd probaly buy the pacesetter if u really want it now, or just save until you can afford the RB one, either way, good luck and drive safe.

I have BOTH also..the PaceSetter is Lighter than the Racing Beat header, weight wise..I haven't Swapped out yet,but I can say that I have not Encountered any Problem with the PaceSetter header.SURE it gets friggin Cherry Red sometimes!..you would too!,If you were made that Thin, but Hell For the Price,It is a Step up from Stock!..and Isn't that the Over-all Opinion around here?..that ANYTHING is better than Stock?..

well I would like to go to supercharged or turbo charged eventually so I would hate to drop 1000.00 into exhaust and in a year or so either get trid of the car or swap the exhaust for a turbo setup u know.
