Why yellow? They're deep cycle batteries.

Standard redtop, it'll last longer.
Deep cycle batteries are for those planning to regurly discharge 80% of the battery. Fortunately, you have a alternator to prevent this.

buying a battery off of ebay wasn't that smart. not trying to rag you but you will have no warranty unless you have a hook-up at a parts store that will work with you. I bout my red top from advance auto parts, thats with a 3yr free replacement, it was worth spending the extra.(150ish)(new) yours 91.00 + shipping( estimated 30.00) used good luck

I agree with Sean, the yellow top is overkill. The only reason I run one, is because its the only one they make in the size that I needed.

I've posted before on the yellow vs. red difference, but scathcart basically summarized it...

There's no need to get a yellow top unless you regularily discharge your battery. Deep cycle batteries have thicker plates to allow this, but that also means they are more expensive and have a completely different charging profile. A car alternator basically charges the battery to around 14V then cuts off. A deep cycle needs a constant current charge up to about 14V, then a constant voltage charge to about 14.9 to obtain proper life. Thus, an automotive alternator cannot provide the ideal charging curve....Does it really matter? No, not really because battery life in a car is short anyway....But it does mean that the extra money you spend for the yellow top is essentially wasted.

That said, I have a yellow top for my car because I have a nasty habit of deep discharging my batteries...

A give and take I guess. But you are right for the most part. I'll be able to figure something out down here - should anything go wrong.

Hey, Aaron, I know that the plates are thicker in a deep cycle battery, but I thought the main difference with Deep cycle batteries was the fact that they have solid plates (lots of thin plates) as opposed to the lead "sponge" plates (more surface area) of starting batteries.
This would be why you can't deep cycle a starting battery... the fine lead "sponge" is consumed and falls to the bottom of the battery.

How those that don't know, a battery is just an electrolytic chemical reaction between sulphuric acid and lead.
