Hey my friend is a supra guy and he every once in a while like to run just open downpipe. he was wondering if a 7 running just downpipe would have enough back pressure and would be safe on the car... i explained the noise it would generate. thanks

 

my friend's 600awhp VR4 used to run open downpipe... used to shoot flames under the car and stuff. But then he saved up and got a well flowing exhaust and the car spools better and doesn't attract anywhere near as much attention

 

yeah not the friend above but another has a divorced downpipe. talk about loud.

 

in a rotary engine u dont need back pressure theres no valves to burn... ive ran open down pipe several times , so yes its safe for the engine, and the turbo is plenty of backpressure by it self....

i guess technically it would be " dangerous" to be shooting flames under the car, or ehxusat gas fumes could harm u, and its illegal technically...... but im sure u know this and dont care haha

i have never seen a car spool better with more exhaust..... its allways a restriction...

 

yeah true komp i noticed how my friends surpra's spooled going over speed bumps lol not only that they sound like semi's

 

haha yeah it sounds cool, the turbo sounds crazy when u do that haha

 

how big are the turbos stock i know that the dang supras have ct26's good turbos

 

lets just say the turbo II will be 5x louder open dp then the supra and will give you a headache witthin 5 minutes due to the fact the its right under you...

 

On an NA you will be half deaf after an 85 mph trip, dunno' about a TII.

Why would you run a downpipe on a NA?

here we go again.. he is calling the down pipe the cat replacement pipe from the manifold to under the car with no other exhaust...

n/a with a broken exhaust or dp only is horrid! and I drive a loud road race exhaust system on my n/a and love it

hmm k noob but i still dont see what the point of that is.. turbo i know just downpipe = faster spool

 

right faster spool with just dp, n/a no point but to make lots of noise

 

I mean my exhaust broke off before the cat, and the 2 pre-cats were empty.

However my friends 85GS is much louder running open manifold though.

 

k well yes reguardless no exhaust is going to equal some lound noise. na / t2

 

haha ohh god i had this happen before, man that was bad....


ive ran open RB header at hte track before THATS LOUD, good god, even with ear plugs after a few runs my ears felt lik they were going to bleed, for hrs! haha

 

hmm well i have the hks downpipe. so we will see how loud that is.

 

My first car was an Olds Cutlass Supreme, I took the Olds 260 v8 out and replaced it with a small block 350, and after the swap i guess we forgot to tighten the E. Manifold bolts and on the way back from fueling up they vibrated loose, the headers separated from the manifold and it was like both sides did it simultaneously. Me being a dumb 16 year old at the time had no idea the consequences, thought it sounded cool so we drove it all the way home. Needless to say the 1500 bucks I had just spent (well mom my mom spent) on head work had to be redone... But I imagine the rotary with no exhaust is even louder.

 

Wont having such a short exhaust system with only downpipe kill the cars torque ? Im sure it will produce more power though

 

hmm never thought about that good question althou thinking about it. the quicker the turbo spools up the fast the car will pull. so i vote no. ......answers?
