one solid beep. not a buzzer. what does this mean?? searched...

Ok on the parts car I picked up a few weeks ago when I put a battery and alternator on it and turn the key to start it up... beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep..... There is a moderately loud solid beep. It is not a buzzer. it does not have pauses.

No, this is not the low coolent, redline, oil buzzer. It sounds like the power steering beeper but no pauses.

The gauge reads 14 volts. The Idiot cluster comes on but nothing bad lights up. The clock flickers a bit when you turn the key from "ACC" to "START".

The starter does not kick on. The fuel pump does not kick on.

What's wrong?? I'm stumped...

Interlock switch?? neutral switch?? bad grounds? relays?

well did the plug on the power steering become un-pluged? I know that sounds weird but there is a separate computer underneath the dash and it went berserk when i de-powered my rack and wouldn't stop beeping lol. It took me forever to find it under there and i was disconnecting all kinds of speakers and looking under the dash finally found it because the pitch changed slightly when i touched it and i looked up what it was and it said it was the power steering module and that it will beep under certain kinds of failure. but yeah that one drove me nuts for 2 days lol just one long steady beep lol.

ps its right under the steering column/ dash in that general area. itll stop if you unplug it (if that is it) or i think the more common one is sometimes the door buzzer switch fails open and beeps

ohh woah lol only read the first half of your post lol, well i would check your battery voltage with a good meter (stock car one is not that reliable) and clean off all your battery connections (ie take them off the terminals and wire brush them and maybe even do the same to the starter. the voltage could read good but if they are corroded it might not get enough amps to flow through to get it to start. ohh and again sry about skimming your post

Thanks for the help. I cleaned the main terminals. The battery is out of the running car and is only maybe 7 months old. I haven't had time to look at it since it's 35 miles away at my parents and I work every day. I'm going to look everything over tomorrow.
