OMP leaking from seals underneith!

Well, threw my '88 TII in the air, checked out the OMP, and where the oil is leaking out from 2 seals on the bottom, the engine block is clean...where the rest is dirty as hell. So at least the oil is doing something good, and horrible at the same time!!

I've got an 88 n/a sitting, I figured I'll swap those 2 out, and just run premix on the 88...Would I have to change/add the oil back in after I did this? Like will it just pour out once I get it off? Would I have to drain it first? Just curious on this types of things.

Or if somebody has a pretty good condition one I could buy for cheap, I'd be happy! :P

Your oil won't pour out of the engine when you remove the OMP. Some will dribble out of the lines when they are removed but you won't lose very much oil.

Good, I really don't want to be drenched in oil when I remove it

And thankfully I found someone who has a spare omp.

One thing I noticed, the maintenance book doesn't have ANYTHING about an "oil metering pump". The closest thing is an "oil pump" Now the "oil pump" which I swear is the OMP, is in the front of the car, right in front of the fan, near the bottom. It has 4 lines *rubber or..hose* and, obviously, a body. I am thinking of the right part, correct?

there is an oil pump inside the front cover that is square shaped that is connected with 4 bolts. the omp is on the outside of the front cover on the pass side, it connects to the cover with 2 bolts. you're probably looking at the right one.

Sweet. I'll take a picture of it and show you what i'm fidling with, just to be sure.

My n/a is also leaking oil. It's leaking from the hose that connects to the oil cooler. I'm not sure which one it is, but anybody got THAT part?

Maybe that's because it's not the "oil metering pump", it's the Metering Oil Pump.

Hmm...weird, I've never seen it called that..I've ALWAYS seen it the oil metering pump. I guess it's just a VERY large misconception. You're the first person to bring this to my eyes. Maybe I'll be able to find it a bit easier, then. :p

That's the piece that is leaking. I'm under the assumption that's the OMP or MOP or whatever.

and on my n/a, this is the hose I believe is leaking, it's the lower one.

Those look like RUBBER lines on the pump. Rubber will leak.

What's the question?

If I was doing this repair, I would rebuild the pump and lines then reinstall the pump with a new o-ring. Only takes about 30 minutes to rebuild the pump.

No oil will pour out when you remove it other then a few drops.
