i didn't remove my gear and shaft, just blocked it off. I didn't notice a change in the oil pressure either, just leaking oil.
Edit: My car is S5, which might make a difference.

Why I did it?
1) I wanted to premix
2) I didn't want to spend the $32X4 for new oil injector lines.
