Exclamation Reliability

First, replace the AST with an Aluminum AST from PettitRacing $150. Mine split and dumped about 1 1/2 years ago. The mechanic replaced it with a plastic OEM. I didn't want it to happen again so I got the Alum one.

Next replace all of the hoses with silicone. By now they are hard as a rock from engine heat & age. When they split they will give you major headaches trying to diagnose problems.

Pettit Racing also has a frrebie.....grounding strap for you.

After that, get comfortable driving your newtoyou Rex before you bolt on extras. Then do it slowly, one step at a time. In case you have probs, you only have to go back one.

Catback exhaust is usually the first. Then change out the intake system with something that won't pull in hot air.

Add a Boost Gauge and a Turbo Timer so you can see what's happenin with your boost and the timer to cool down the turbos after a good run.

Next, it's up to you, 3" downpipe, Hi-Flow Cat & Boost Controller.

Then, antisway bars, spring & shocks.

Make sure you have a lot of jack, and don't mind spending it.

Oh, find a Rotohead mechanic close by.....you can't rely on the dealers.

Last but not least, Have fun!

one more thing...

when you have to rebuild the engine....do the port job.

keep at least 3-5k on hand if you plan on driving it daily....or go without til you do when it has one of its fits....mine is a spoiled child...gets all the toys and gizmos...but still throws tantrums and breaks stuff....but you know how it is with spoiled kids...the parents love them...

Don't forget to think about your ecu. With mods, you'll need to fix maps for the higher boost you'll want to run.

Have fun and welcome to the money pit that is the rx7. All worth it though!!

So you finally got it huh? Did you have to go to the dealer to pick it up or did you get it shipped? What's it in the shop for now?

I know how you feel. After two years adn a lot of problems I still love mine. I just got it back after 2 months in the shop and I still love it.

You will need to replace the radiator by 70k-75k miles. Get an all metal one.

I'd second AST replacement. Mine broke at 60k miles. Also the boost gage is very very helpful.
As you get used to the car it's difficult to tell sometimes if the performance is off a little or your just getting used to the jump to light speed. Boost gauge helps with that.

My first mods were a DP and a K&N air filter. These are not too pricey.
