My car is half dead!! =(

Omg, my car is half dead! >_<

I was driving the 7 after work the other day. I was in second gear engine braking to a stop when all of a sudden my car just died on me. The steering wheel got all stiff, all gauges were down, no blinking lights at all. Nothing. So I braked to a stop and tried to put my hazards on. They wouldn't blink. I turned the car off, waved the people behind to drive around me, popped the hood and went to take a look. As I reached the front of the car, my lights started blinking. I got back inside, started up the car (YES!!!) and drove literally ten feet into a parking lot on my right hand side. Turned the car off. For the next hour or so I let my car idle for a bit, drove it around the parking lot a little, turned it off, let it sit and do it all over again. Eventually, I felt a little safer and decided to drive home.

The next day, I went to get cash from the 7, started it up, reversed it about two feet before it died on me again. I turned the key to the start position and nothing. Since I had stuff to do, I haven't had the chance to tinker with the car yet.

I'm thinking three things though. 1. My alternator belt is just loose from me doing other stuffs before. 2. My alternator is going. 3. My battery cables don't have a good connection.

The thing is, it might not be the alternator cuz I shouldn't have been able to start the car again. I'm at a loss. Any advice?

could be you have corroded or loose battery cables, make sure they are nice and clean and tight. our alternators are pretty shitty as it is so if the battery is not supplying juice to the ignition system the charging system may not be able to support it solely. i would check that first then get the alternator checked.

It is probably the negative battery cable loose/corroded, clean it up and you will be fine.

My hyundai ( daily driver that's even less reliable than my 7 lol ) did the same thing

it was a loose fuse block on the solidly tightened battery connector...

very simple but annoying problem

check, clean and tighten every single connection on your battery and on your alternator
