I love how its the old school guys that are the ones that (for the most part) really know what a rotary is, I run a cafe in a national lab complex i get to shoot the bull with nuclear engineers most are dudes in 50 yr range so talking about the "wankel" is kinda like a blast from the past to a couple of them, from what ive gotten from them it was pretty much the first pain in the *** from japan for the v8 crowd

Uh...ya.......oh!...YES,it really helps.Especially if they grew up around the Same Era as the car. Some of this stuff is handed down by guys who know nothing But Rotary.
Once you start reading the Info they possess,if you are not hooked you soon will be.
Those guys make it look so easy!

Yes, they were a pain for V8's at the time, as this was the begining of the Smog ERA and V8's were turkeys(150 - 170 hp,etc.) I beat many V8s with a stock RX2 or RX3. And also would top out at 120...any of them.
I'm 61 an still diggin' it. But it is hard to find knowledgable people to talk to.

just take a look around and you will know who is who. like the 10 thousand premixing threads, kids don't even realize that people have been running 2 stroke in their rotaries since the early 70's.
i've also heard all the stories of little bridged rotaries stomping on the big heavy muscle cars, too bad the tides have turned.

not even bridged, you could buy an Rx2/3 slap on a header, and you'd have the fastest thing on the road.
things have changed, in the early 80's, a vette was 150hp/3500lbs, 23lbs/hp, which is like a stock 1st gen Rx7....

only if it is force inducted, and i highly doubt it will be.
i would like to see them throw together a 32X racing version, if it ever comes to that. even if it is only to make people squeal over a prototype.

as I went by.
a bit higher than that, it is about 65-70% as efficient as gasoline so more about 1.5:1. it really depends on the gasoline to ethanol content, E85 can range from 60% ethanol to 85% ethanol content(the rest is just pump gas), because those vehicles running it use flex fuel sensors to automatically compensate. hobbyists just now are getting ECUs available with flex fuel mapping capability.

rotarys could be radioactive i think they are built in Hiroshima...throw a set of 3mm apex seals in a breeder reactor for enrichment pu-239 isotopes will make them bulletproof

nope, never will again. about 10+ years ago before flex fuel became more common you COULD get more from alternative fuels but then they hiked the prices as soon as they saw the manufacturers starting to produce them in larger numbers.
for example i remember methanol/ethanol costing less than a buck a gallon when gasoline was about $2.69 a gallon in the early 2 thousands. in pure form it is about 55% as efficent as gasoline being closer to a 2:1 ratio in fuel requirements.
