oil in water?

when you lose your water seals and oil gets into your water, how much oil are we talking about?
my car supposedly overheated once and i have a rebuild, but there's a little bit of oil swirl in my overflow tank. could this be leftovers from when it died? i am losing water more than i think i should be.
i washed the bottle out and am waiting to see if it comes back.

Oil will be obsorbed into the pores of the bottle, so everytime it gets water/coolant in it there will be some floating on it...

Fill motor with coolant (cold, and fill it ALL the way), leave filler cap off. Pull EGI fuse. Crank motor. Geyeser out of filler neck? Bad O-rings. Bad motor...No cookie
