Oil Pressure at Zero! Please Help

I noticed a couple days ago that my oil pressure was at 0 and i was driving it all day before i noticed. Is the only solution getting a new oil pump? im scared people no oil makes rotors MAD! But that doesnt make sense beacuse the car starts fine when I turn it on and I thought it needed oil pressure to turn on.

o ya its an 1987 FC turbo, and I just did a tune up 3 weeks ago (oil, plugs, oil filter, etc replaced) and the motor has enough oil and it starts up fine everytime but the oil pressure gauge is at 0. I havent been driving it since i noticed and i have an appointment next week to take it to mazdatrix for oil lines and injectors to be replaced since theres a leak right where the oil lines go through the intake manifold. but this problem existed way before the oil pressure problem. and im afraid to take it to mazdatrix with no oil pressure since its like 20 miles away. i need help someone please tell me what to do.

I also heard that if the motor actually had no oil pressure it wouldnt run so thats y I wanna know if its just the gauge but i want to know for sure because i dont want to blow my motor when i take it to mazdatrix on wendsday.

The wire might have just wiggled and disconnected from the sensor, it should be near the rear of the block. Definitely not a good feeling to see that 0psi though.

it will be connected to the oil pressure sensor on your middle or rear iron above the spark plugs

It's much more likely that there's a problem with the oil pressure sensor or sensor wiring than there is a problem with your oil pump (especially if it's still running). The oil pumps in our cars rarely fail.

If you don't have a mechancial pressure gauge and you want to do a quick test, disconnect the oil line that comes out of the front of the engine from the oil cooler. Put a catch pan under the hose then have a buddy start the car for just a second, then turn it off. If oil comes blasting out, the pump is fine.

Mine failed. And my motor failed within a few blocks. Damage can be seen here:

hey i have a similar situation, now if im not mistaken'd is this the Oil Pressure Sender, and this is the way my Oil Gauge appears on my car even when its on. As you can see its below the line, unlike my fuel, battery voltage, and temp. The needle is below the line..

lchaidez, your oil pressure gauge is dead, it had a mechanical failure in the cluster. I know because my TII oil pressure looked the same and that's what happened. so you can buy another gauge cluster with about the same mileage or get an aftermarket and more accurate gauge, that's what I did.

Below the line means the gauge failed. At the line means there's another problem, such as your sender malfunctioning. Get an aftermarket fuel pressure gauge and check what the fuel pressure really is.

below the line?
Look at the third post above yours.

When my needle showed zero, it was the oil pressure sending unit that failed ( not the guage). I found a new one at NAPA. Took care of the probelm.

The symptom of a broken gauge seems to be that it shows below 0.
