Oil Pressure drop after 4K rpms !?!?!??!

Ok, this is just freakin weird. Oil pressure is a steady 60 psi all the way to 4K RPMS, after 4K it drops steadily and bottoms out at 45 PSI. what the hell.

91 N/A,
Oil and filter were changed 1200 miles ago.
Engine is a mazda factory reman w/ 32k on it

I am in the process of gathering the last of my parts for my turbo conversion, but I have to keep this car running until then, and with a fairly new engine this is a bit frustrating.

RETed? Hypnytz? anybody?

thanks, that sounds very similar to my problem, But i have steady oil pressure all the way to 4 grand, steady 50-60 psi, and when I am in neutral, not moving, simply reving the engine and holding at specific RPm's(4500,5000,5500, and beyond, the oil pressure does not drop.

No leaks/puddles/excessive consumption. What weight oil are you using? Is this a new/sudden problem?

Don't rev over 4000rpm with a load on the engine. Revving in neutral doesn't mean much because the engine is freewheeling without a load.

Yeah this problem just started happening, I use 20W50 oil, always have, I have a very minor leak from the rubber "elbow" joint on one of my OMP lines, it is only a few drops, I have normal oil consumption, 1 quart every 1500 miles.

For a possible cheap fix, cross your fingers and replace the oil filter. I had 2 fail in 15 years and is something that I rarely consider. But for $5 and 1 minute of work, its definitely worth the shot.

I agree with the first post from dead, that it sounds like the front O ring is seeping.

The second thing I would be looking at would be the oil itself cavating in the oil pump and foaming.

What should I look for to be 100% that it is the O-ring? what are the steps to diagnose.

Also, is the O-ring located behind the front cover? meaning i have to remove the front cover? or is it something I can access in the engine bay?

You must remove the front cover. There is no external veiw that can determin if it is seeping.

You can do it with the engine in the car, you just have to remove the fan (and I like to remove the rad. as well, just to get the extra room).

You ought to try changing the oil first, amking sure you are using the correct grade, just to make sure its not an oil problem. If changing the oil does not solve the problem, the you should rip the front cover off.
