OEM top replacement.
Ok I just bought myself a turbo convertible but it needs a few things including a top. I was wondering if OEM tops are still available or if all the tops now a days are aftermarket?

Well ok, there is nothing inherently 'Rotary' about the 7 top. To give a straight answer, I think that the top choices are Robbins, Aabestco, Acme(Beep! Beep!). Most all tops are sourced from these companies. Robbins seem to be highly regarded, the Aabesco top is what I have. It is not perfect, but mine is two years old and I am satisfied with it. Last I heard, Acme(Beep! Beep!) was a better supplier of Anvils, Rocketsleds and Magnetic Birdseed than they are of RX 7 tops.
I have not heard of any availablity on OEM tops. Considering that the inventory would be 16-20 years old, it is unlikely that the oem top would still be out there. If it is, I bet it will cost a pretty high price. If you search one out, let us know.

Yeah this is my first convertible so I'm kind of new to the top thing but I searched my *** off and even looked on the mazdatrix site and couldn't find anything. I'm going to check the dealer here in a bit and get a price but I've heard it's around 900 bucks. If the stock ones last as long as the more expensive aftermarket replacements and cost relatively the same price then I wouldn't mind paying the price on the OEM one being that there will be less work involved.
They are on ebay regularly for around $350 (acme, I think). I was looking into new convertible tops before but I ended up with a convertible that did not need a top replacement.

This is the least labor intensive route to take, but they don't specify the source of the material (oem or aftermarket)

That's nice, but a bit more than I want to spend. I've had to stomach a miata top install and hated every minute of it, of course those you have to re-rivet instead of using bolts like on the 7 so that made it worse. I've seen the ones on ebay but those you have to cut the window out etc... which makes for a long, painful install. The link provided above would be nice if I had alot of money but if I can get the stock one for 900 and save 400 bucks then I will. If I have to buy the one for 395 off of ebay then I guess I will as well, but I'm going to be complaining all the way through it, lol.
Bought mine about a year and a half ago for $300 on ebay (from kwiktops.com) & had it professionally installed for another $400. The fit is nearly perfect, and it is holding up well so far.
Both my father and I own verts that both need the tops replaced. I checked at the dealership about a year or two ago and tops were no longer available. And I believe they were $700-$800, but I don't recall if that was with targa section or not. Just to give you an idea what OEM ones were going for.
