o2 whire shilding.

I noticed that my o2 whire have both the shilding and the core connected to the core of the new o2 sensor ...

I think iI read somewhere in here that it was bad to have it like that ... shall I just remove the shielding ?? or do i have to get a shilded o2 sensor?

/bo, cant search on o2 !

If you do that, you'll send the O2 signal to ground, and neither the A/F gaige or ECU will get a signal. The shield wire must be completely seperate from the signal wire. If even one strand is touching, you'll get no signal.

It will work if connected with an unshielded wire, but the shielded signal is slightly more accurate.

I suspect the main reason for shielding the O2 wire is to prevent heat damage over time.

No, it's purely to shield the signal from electrical interference, of which there is plenty in the engine bay.

NZ's right- anytime you're dealing with "micro voltages" that can be manipulated via external electro-magnetic forces (mostly AC voltages & ignition systems), you've got to shield the wire...about 1/4 of wiring in a modern jet aircraft is shielded- fuel quantity, communications, navigation, O2 sensors (just kidding)

Just wondering but can you get shielded wire anywhere? Right now the wire that is going fromt he o2 censor to the wiring harness is not shielded.

how do you know it's not shielded- it'll look like ordinary wire externally...you should be able to tell at the splice, though...

I have a plain wire on mine... had to replace it from sensor to ecu as stock one shorted somewhere in the harness... maybe I'm losing .001% gas milage. but maybe I'm gaining it instead

just opened up my cable to re-solder it .. nither of the cables are shileded ..
