Anyone Know How To Change Headlight Motor? RX7 FD

Hi All

I have a 3rd gen RX7 and had the problem many of us have, headlight stuck up!

Firstly the passenger side headlight started to struggle going up or down, seemed to be getting stuck, could hear a whiring noise (if that makes sense) then it gave up completly, so manually put up and locked them up so i can put headlights on and off.

I have a motor for the headlight, went outside, popped the bonnet and scratched my head, i have no clue how to replace the headlight motor.

Can anyone walk me through it, the only instructions i could find on line were in japaneese, as i can not speak the language, no good to me.

I have very little mechanical knowledge but anything that breaks i like to at least try and fix myself, best way to learn

Any help would be lovely

thanks

I have never done it. A good starting point would be to download the Factory Service Manual. You can find it in the 3rd gen FAQ thread stickied in this forum.
Spend some time reading the various stickies in the newbie section and the RULES.

+most bolts will be 10mm.
this is the best i can remember off the top of my head. hope it helps

*move headlights up
-remove 4 screws holding plastic surround
-then remove plastic surround.
-loosen(dont remove) 2 screws holding the headlight cover in the front. directly under the painted cover.
*close headlights
- lossen(dont remove) the 2 screws holding the cover in the rear of headlight directly under cover
-remove cover
-remove two bolts on the top/rear of headlight.
*open headlight again
next three bolt locations are hard to describe thru text so ill try to put more detail in this. here it goes.....
under the headlight motor(thing with the turnable red cap on it...behind the headlight) there is a bolt bolting to the frame to one of the three bolts holding the motor down. shouldn't be to hard to find.
-remove bolt and move the small bar out of the way to make it easier to remove the headlight assemble later.
next two bolts are under the headlight and harder to explain.
Reach under the Right headlamp for example and the bolts will be connecting the headlight to the frame directly to the left and the rear. (remember...under the headlamp in the open position)
-remove the 2 bolts
-unplug the motor connections
-unplug lightbulb
-remove headlight

-replace motor or whatever you need to do
-repeat steps in reverve order to install
-have fun :/
