Is there any problems with one running a little cooler than normal, say 165-170? I just installed an autometer temp gauge and was wondering if it was accurate...I have a fluidyne radiator and a black magic 15" e-fan.

you would probably have reduced gas mileage and increased engine wear; running lower than normal temps.

If your temp is only at 165, you probably have the wrong thermostat installed

I know it is not the wrong thermostat...the guys down here at MazMax (who really know their stuff) sold it (thermo) to me...If they gave me the wrong one then I be really suprised.

The e-fan is kicking in really early...I think I am going to adjust the settings on it and have it kick on a little later and see what happens.

silly question, operating temperate = water temperature, right?

if i want to get a temp gauge to monitor my engine's operating temp, i should be getting water temp gauge?

sorry for the silly question.

We are talking water temp here, but I find that Oil temp is just as (if not more) important.

The correct thermostat doesn't even open until the engine is at at least 177degF, so if your gauge is showing 165-170degF during normal driving (i.e. long enough for the engine to have warmed up) then either your gauge is faulty or you have the wrong thermostat. Take it out and check it, it'll have the nominal opening temp ("180degF") marked on it.

In normal cruising I see 82-86degC (178-187degF).
