Hmm, lets see

I have the brakes of a turbo, springs, shock, etc... I have less weight and more reliability. I guess I can't complain.
I'm going to take up my N/A another level or so. Going big street port, e-fan,e-water pump. Pully, Haltech, 4.3 or higher gears, true dual exhaust, carbon fiber driveshaft, light wheels, coilovers, weight reduction (about 2200 lbs). Lexan windows. No power steering, no ac, no stereo, etc... blah blah blah.

When I'm done, I don't care if people consider it a "sports car" car or not. It should hold its own. Want to find out?
Besides I've got the sportiest RX-7 you could get in the 86 model year. Almost like a turbo with out the turbo.

Hey glass man, how does that Borla sound? I am gonna get cat-back someday, and was wondering how it sounded. Also, how is the craftsmanship, typical Borla quality?

Yep, my NA FC brothers, we're the red headed stepchilds of the RX-7 community. We weren't the first RX-7's, and we weren't the last. We're the middle child, sometimes forgotten. We don't have the old school charm of the SA/FB, or the sexy curves of the FD. Our own turbo bretheren look down on us. Well, I got one thing to say to all the naysayers: BITE ME!

NA FC's are the shiznat. I love my GTUs, and wouldn't trade it for any other RX-7. Look how many FC's are still around, TONS. Gee, why is that? Well, how about bulletproof reliability. 200K before a rebuild? No problem.

The handling, the brakes, and yes, the acceleration. Don't forget my 'Vert brothers, sexy droptops for fun in the sun. The racing history: IMSA GTU Domination in the 80's, 24 Hours of Daytona's GTU Class won TWELVE YEARS in a ROW by NA RX-7's.

Not sports cars? Hmm, two doors, two seats, 50/50 weight distribution, big brakes, rear drive, yep, those FC's sure are great commuter cars. Hello! If they ain't sportscars, what are they? SUV's?!

So brothers, don't despair, just rail those corners, hit those apexes, and throw those flames. /We/ know the joy of 8000+ rpms in a rotary, and FORGET what anyone says.

Damn with mine stripped bare inside and the AC was off and the power steering belt disconnected. The best run I could make was 15.0 at the 1/4 and 10.0 at the 1/8th. What mods do you have on your car?

Oh yea I tipped the scales at 2234lbs that day too.

that car, its wrecked , had a stripped interior, removed a/c, p/s, bacv, re routed the coolant line from the water pump straight to the rear of the engine, modded TB, a custom made intake with a Fram cone filter , GSL-SE 680cc secondary injectors, upgraded fuel pump, pace setter header hooked up to a 2.5" single sided exhaust with NO mufflers, 205/50/15" tires, NGK 9's, and i tipped the scales at 2250lbs it had a sport suspension setup on it but i didnt do that the owner before me did. i didnt strip the interior either i ran a 6 sec flat 0-60 in that car, i shifted at the rev limiter @ 7600rpm.

my current car
86 base model i assume, since its 4 lug and sport models had 5 lug and i right??
well it has the stock exhaust but the weld i had done to it melted the other day so its coming straight off the exhaust manifold i just made a cold air box yesterday, intake, modded TB, re routed coolant lines, removed a/c, p/s, air pump, NGK 9's with the crush washers cut off, 5.12 gears, and soon ill be gettin my 89-91 ported intake manifold and when i get my income tax refund im buying a street ported engine and saving up for the mazdatrix true dual exhaust, gettin an e-fan, fire control ignition box, 550 secondaries, walbro pump, and 225/50/15" tires with 15x7.5" rims

the title of this car says 2200lbs but i havent had it weighed yet
its pretty quick to say the least with the 5.12 gears

I got a few questions about the 5.12's.
-Whered ya get em from, ive seen em from mazdatrix?
-About how Much to do it all?
-Did you notice any effect in top end?
-How hard was it to install?
-Did the rear tend to slip out in lower gears more or less?
-How big a diff did it make on your acceleration (0-60, 60sec, 1/8, 1/4)

Here's my favourite: check out http://www.supercars.net/index-present.html
supercars.net lists the '89 GTUs as a supercar! You'll note that there is no TII listed there. You'll also not find an NA Supra, or one riced up civic (does the 2002 type R civic count?)
Not saying we NA cars deserve to be classifed as a supercar; we don't compare at all with some of those things, and then again there are some pretty gross cars on there, but a decent site none the less.
Forget a ferrari... you want a real supercar? NA RX7 all the way!

that's right! The N/A RX-7 is one of the true sport cars out there, that is why it is a legend in the sport car world.

The racing history: IMSA GTU Domination in the 80's, 24 Hours of Daytona's GTU Class won TWELVE YEARS in a ROW by NA RX-7's.
...and this prove it! :1party:

This is a tough one...for me anyway, before owning a tII, i would have voted that its a real sportscar, no problem, I have a modded n/a and a modded TII, but they are night and day, the N/a handles pretty good, but when it calls for ballsout power and driving, the TII makes the n/a seem like a sporty 'grocery getter'.. I love my n/a but when I feel the need and greed for power, I drive my TII, or sad to say, my 4x4, which is tons quicker than an n/a fc, but I have gone back to the drawing board in an attempt to make my n/a my second fastest vehicle, if i truly beleived it was a lost cause, I wouldn't be trying all the stuff that I am with it, so I will deem it a sportscar...Max

What mods do you have on the TII? Got any times for either of your FC's?

I think one ride in my car would change the way you look at n/a FC's. Every ridden in a low 14 sec n/a?

i agree with mazdaspeed7, ever been in a low-mid 14 sec n/a its rather exhilerating experience, you should try it some time. and you can race me when i got my car done ~270hp street port with my 5.12 gears, i think i can run a high 12, that should be interesting

DAMN RIGHT!!!!! i got a GTU that'll kick the crap out of any rustang, prelude and camaro and on a lesser scale ANY civic. especially on the highway. it may have an automatic tranny(manual is on the way) but its still fast as hell, has razor sharp handling and revs high. and yes its a N/A with only a Borla catback and Flowmaster cone filter. anyone who says that N/As and RX7s in general are not sports cars has either never raced one or has had thier *** beat badly enough for them to say that.

I've got a Maxima that would probably give you a run for your money... you would win... but it would be CLOSE.

You can beat Mustangs, Preludes, Camaros, and ALL Civics? Hmm... I would reconsider that statement. Espeically since I've seen Civics that would kill my car... and I'm about 100hp up on you and I've got a 5spd.

Not a flame, just a reality check....
