Question No Redline and loud as hell

88 n/a auto gxl

recently replaced the injectors, did everything by the book.

Now she starts like a dream, BUT it sounds like a damn lawn mower (exhaust leak?) and i can't get the tach past 6 grand.

it has a Bonez superflo cat, it's only about a year old, it wasn't this loud before the injector swap and i could redline easy too

Ive dont random things like change and intake gasket and suddenly exhaust leaks appear.
Try holding your hand close to the block around the manifold and feel for exhaust gasses.

I hate to be "that" guy in the thread, but I guess it is my turn.

Sounds like you blew an apex seal. Check compression?

^Yeah I have no clue what an apex seal is. What does an rx7 sound like when you blow the motor douche?

I read the guy changed his fuel injectors so that makes me think he might have been having a flooding issue or not running right on one of his rotors which may actually have been a low compression issue and is now fully blown on that rotor. But of course I don't know **** even though I have blown two motors.

I also made mention I hate to be that guy in the thread that mentions a blown motor based off of the basic description of that sound and issue, when it is not the case.

Did you change primaries, secondaries, or both?

first of all, both the housings and rotors were replaced about 15,000 miles ago ( i already blew the first one :P) so i can doubt i blew it again. Second, yes i replaced both primaries and secondaries.

i've experienced a blown rotor before and this is definitely not it, it sounds like its being restricted somewhere. I can redline it in park, but when i'm actually driving it i can't get the needle past 6 grand

Ok
Auto tranny has that thing where it adjusts to your driving, right?
If you use the hold button it still won't redline?

okay, got under the car today.

the "lawn mower" sound is due to a blown header gasket between the cat and the header, its also missing a fastener nut.

now i just need to figure out this rev problem

hmm, I've been having a similar issue on my 1987 TII recently... Maybe I'll get under there tonight and take a look around. I also have the acceleration issue that you mentioned. If i come up with anything then I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I find it.

Maybe it's the AUX ports not opening properly? I presume it's possible since the S4 ports are activated by back pressure from the exhaust.
