My theme for the rebuild. Love that song, and setting the humor up for this thread.
yeah i can see why guys remove p/s and a/c completely, would be killer easy to work on lol.

The bottom 2 bolts holding the a/c compressor, are like inches away from the frame rail, really hard to squeeze a socket wrench in there

By remove PS, I hope you mean, remove the bracket from the engine ^_- No need to disconnect the lines and get ATF everywhere..
Also, you leave the oil cooler in the car, no need to take it out [the rear banjo bolt holding it on the engine is a 23MM... Don't try anything else]

lol.. Engine pulling is way too routine for me on FCs now... [I'm up to 5 engine pulls, and 4 installs now ]
Also, you *can* leave the hood on, but it's easier off..

Oh and make sure you have lots of reference pictures if this is the first one [I don't think you have a second FC to compare with, correct?]

lol.. Yea, it is [my base came with manual steering, and I took out the AC. Sooooo Much room ]

I think you have to use a wrench for that bit, the socket will get stuck..

if you dont already own them you will want to invest in a set of gear wrenches

All these haters... I for one love this car and will love this engine rebuild as im saving up for one aswell. And i'm going to modify an S5 intake to my S4, since its a nice gain of power and looks great.

And the song is his theme song for this, it even says it in the OP.

So I been on and off working on it.. slow progress..

Ordered pineappleracing medium streetport and exhaust templates. Picked up an air grinder and various bits.

I bearly got the a/c compressor off just now, had hell of a time trying to get a suitable wrench in there with enough torque to break it loose until i removed the battery tray and got more leverage to undo it.

Im debating on depowering the p/s. Seems like it would free up alot more room in the bay and make things easier to work on. Drivers side of the engine bay is pretty crowded when removing spark plugs etc.

i would not remove PS just to get to the plugs easier, the convenience of something you will do maybe twice a year is not enough to sacrifice the daily comfort of PS

I have no idea how a de-powered rack feels, but my manual rack feels amazing [compared to both S4 and S5 PS] unless you have to do frequent parallel parking a manual rack is an awesome swap. [Also, no more PS leaks ever!]

Should have to remove the battery tray anyway to get the radiator/shroud off..?

its more the point of dismantling something that is operational and gives daily comfort.
If its a car you are driving once a week or so go for it, but for a daily I think its best to leave it be

Yeah i might get a 99 blazer from my pops *currently not running and in kansas so either he ships it to me or i fly out there and fix it and drive it back* so i might get a 2nd vehicle to daily drive and bump the rx7 into the toy category. But i always enjoyed cars with full interior and creature comforts *once gutted my old car and realized how stupid it is on a street car*

its when you start removing everything the car becomes a pain in the ******* *** to drive.
Mod the car so it drives better then it left the factory, not worse, lol

Best advice ever. A hacked car doesn't have nearly the resale either. When I was looking for a TII it was nearly impossible to find one that had not had significant hacking/system removal. Missing parts, cut harness, half the bolt missing on stuff.

"Yank that **** outta there!" just pisses me off...

A year on hockey pucks
1 and a half glued together on each side.
Held up really good. They will see a 2nd term with this car.

Wasnt expecting that 2 1/8 flywheel nut, thought it might have been close to the hub nut size so the teardown will be on hold. Ordered the socket online. Going to have some family visitors this week so might take things slower while waiting for parts and tools to come in.

I've said it before, I'm 5'4 and 120lbs and I DD my fc with a manual rack. and at first I was hyper aware of the stiffness but now I forget I even have manual steering. If manual rack is too hard for you then

btw it also cleans up the engine bay so much I really think its worth it, changing spark plugs is so damn easy its not even funny.

for the record my car has the last new manual rack that was available in this country.
But if my car was basically stockish and a daily I would keep PS. My car is purely pleasure driven and I was going for a certain look that is why I removed it

No one is saying you have to be Arnold to turn the wheel, its just easier, never mind if you want a drink while you drive. Changing plugs once a year or so should not be the reason to eliminate PS, a $10 stubby swivel head ratchet is a must have for RX7 spark plug removal. If you are complaining about changing spark plugs on a RX7 never buy a new car where sometimes you cant even see the plugs and its a half day job.

But come man, hockey pucks? Proper mounts are CHEAP- buy them

not only should you expect this nut, but expect to have a really large breaker bar on hand or a good impact gun to break it loose

you will order a socket you will use once instead of borrowing one, but $80 for competition mounts that holds your ENGINE in place is something that offends you?
