No need for dual alt belt.... WHAT SIZE BELT USED? (Read)

I saw a few pics on here once, Ive been searching for HOURS trying to find it.

It showed a pic of a car that had the airpump removed, and instead of a dual alt pulley, he just had a normal belt around the alternator, and a very short belt directly from the main pulley to the w/p.

Anybody know what size belt, or what belt i need to ask for (like a certain car's device) etc etc.

Thanks,
Jon

it's like fifteen bucks for a pulley, is that really too much to fork over?

Call up GATES belt company. Ask to speak to an Application Engineer, tell him you want to force fit the outer sheave of a 2 belt pulley so it will be running 50% contact area of the driven pulley. Tell him the inner sheave has 15% contact area. Tell him the shaft is running on a bushing.

There is a reason pulleys are designed to run a certain contact patch, its based based on LOTS of failures.

crap!!!

back to my discussion..

You are know running your waterpump with uneven forces acting on it. The stock design as roughly equal contact patches.

I have a dual pully on one and a yahoo belt on the other. They both work. The yahoo belt fits loose but it works.

The 3L220 is the belt I used also.
Installing it wasn't that tough either.
Just had to pull the fan off and then work the "YAHOO" belt over the outer waterpump pully.
The belt does fit a little loose but it stops that nasty belt sqeal whenever the fan clutch kicks in. Hence the YAHOO, it doesn't sqeal anymore.
You should be able to find the belt at any hardware store that sells lawn mower belts and if I remember correctly I only paid somewhere around $4 for mine.

Yes that's been discussed on here many times. Most people call it a "yoohoo" belt and there are a few kinds that work for that purpose, including a lawnmower belt from what I remember.

EDIT
I just realized this is one of those threads that was brought back to life for god knows what reason.

Red face

The reason is, you do not have your air pump anymore , so you need an extra belt to drive the water pump at high boost levals ,that's why we have the forum to help people if they don't no, excuse my french.

Huh? I'm still confused. You brought this thread back from the dead that was originally about the exact thing you're posting on. Not only that but I never disagreed with you, I know what it's for, in fact I posted in this thread originall when it was created.

When I said "god knows what reason" I meant for you resurrecting it, that's all.
