No Idea! First RX7
I just bought an 89 convertible for next to nothing from a title loan joint. The car wouldn't start at first but eventually did. I was told it had bad injectors but I have no idea about rotary engines, this is my first. Anyway, here'sthe problem.
It is very hard to start, seems to keep flooding. Has new plugs & wires
I drove it from where I bought it which was 4 hours away and it had very little power but would get up to 80mph on flat ground. I was told coul be no compression in rear rotor. I know front has compression.
Anyone have any ideas. I'm just about to buy a used motor from someone on here but I was hoping maybe the motor wasn't bad in this one by chance. I also get a throttle sensor code from the computer but not sure if that would cause a loss of power. Pic attached to show the deal I got, but my baby won't run.......
Any help?
Tim

You may need to have your TPS (throttle position sensor) checked out. It could be bad. Does your car accelerate badly and lack adequate low end torque? That would be the cause of bad fuel injectors.

Well it may not be your engine is dead, try adding some atf (Automatic Trnsmission Fluid) to the Spark plug holes and slightly turn it over with the gas pedal floored, do this a few times and then let it sit over night and then try restarting it, thatr should restore some compression.
If not get a compression done, if that fails then you'll need a 1989+ motor used or rebuilt... if you get a rebuild, it will probally be about 2k and you may also have the option of having it street ported, you will still be well below the valuse of the car...

89Topless,
Hey welcome to the family. If this is your first rx7 your in for a real treat. These cars have one of the largest followings of any sports car. You have tons of performance upgrades, bodykits, accessories, magazines, etc..
You may want your local rotary mechanic to have a looksee. Could just be something simple like a clogged fuel filter. What region are you in (se, ne, w, s, n, nw, sw)?
Your regional rx7 club probably has a good recommendation on local mechanic.
A few pics:

T top mode - very cool.

I'm in Pensacola,FL so sw I guess. Great pics. I hope this is a easier fix than engine replacement. I really don't have a couple grand to put in it right now, but I love the look of these cars. How about everyone keep an eye out for a 89-91 used engine that still runs good for me. I'd like to just swap out for a running stock engine.
Thanks.

89Topless,
Yep - attracted by the looks, obsession after the 1st test drive
I believe the Florida club is Mazda Rotary Club of Florida:

Didn't see any recommended mechanics on their site, but join their mailling list and ask them via email.
