Nitrous???

Just curious to see if anyone was using nitrous on there second gen turbos. Im guessing you would have to use the nitrous express intercooler kit. Got pics? Do you like it?

Nitrous and turbo is hardly gay. Nothing wrong with having extra power only when needed...

Talk to your defender in the Mustang thread Scathcart. He's the turbo II/nitrous guy, although I think he sold his monster...

Nitrous is extremely helpful if you have an extremely large turbo - otherwise, just up your boost and save the money. I have nitrous on my n/a, but am not putting it on my TII, as it is not really needed. I'll save the money and just stay with turbo.

I'm running turbo/nitrous and it does wonders for spoolup. I hit full spool about 500 rpm sooner and it's scary fast at full boost with nitrous. Boost creep becomes a large problem when you are spraying so make sure you have a proper wastegate.

But for the longest time he owned a modded TII with nitrous.

So even though he sold it, he should still have the knowledge in his cranium.

Also, there is a very lenghty, in-depth nitrous post by him in the archives somewhere.

I've been doing some research into nitrous lately, as for calling it gay, it does basically the same thing as a turbo or supercharger, add more oxygen to the mix
as long as the fuel is there, you're good
a good nitrous system will cost $500 whereas a good turbo system will cost$3000+
on an NA I think nitrous is a VERY valid choice

I know it is your oppinion [sic], but no one asked for it. You might note that the poster asked if anyone was running Nitrous Oxide on their turbo's, not what you thought of it.

I am also going to bet that you don't have ANY first-hand with setting up, using, or tuning a nitrous system, so really, how valid is your oppinion[sic]?

Yes, you need to refill nitrous. It is a cost of performance, just like replacing your turbo is a cost when it wears out from running more than 12 psi on the stock set-up.

Gas needs refilling, as do water/alcohol injection systems. Do you think water injection is gay, too? Do you think buying quality gas is gay? Maybe you should go hit the track, and see what some of the real racers think of N2O.

Yes, I used to run nitrous on my TII. Yes, it was extremely effective. My car would very quickly bury the needle on my speedo... and go past that. I don't, however recommend any sizing over 50hp jettings on a stock turbo. Even with a massive wastegate, you will get creep with shots above that size, and I will NOT be responsible for anyone blowing their motor due to boost creep on nitrous.

I developed a spray system on my nitrous system for my intercooler. When I used my purge valve, it purged through a spray bar onto the intercooler (jetted), and came out the hood scoop. Looked pretty intimidating, too.

Whenever the nitrous system was activated, my intercooler kit sprayed a shot of nitrous oxide onto it every 10 seconds. I know this was effective, since my IC built ice into the fins after a hard run, even with the turbo spiking to 18 psi (on 30mm and 25mm S5 turbo porting).

Actually, that was a mature response. I am impressed.

I suggest you take a ride in a nitrous car (especially an RX-7... they really like the stuff). It may change your mind.

scathcart, are you still going to make a full bolt on nitrous kit for our FCs? I was REALLY looking forward to that Being that I dont have any 1st hand experience with N20 , it wouldve been nice to have a kit put together by someone who does.

bah thats all hearsay. nitrous doesnt hurt a rotary any more than a turbo if they are both tuned correctly.

I said it would be done sometime in the spring, when I get out of school. Please remember I am a student of university, and have things such as homework, and a weekend job.

I am planning the kit.

Ok, Dont mean to sound like Im trying to rush you, as Im not. You have said before that you may not continue working on your kit because you may be leaving FCs in general. I just wanted to know if you were still working on it or not. Oh, BTW. As a nitrous enthusiast you would love my friends brothers camaro. He builds drag cars, its a full tube frame 89 camaro, with a 502 running a 1200HP shot nitrous, 3 stages. Its not fully together yet though, hes hoping to break into the 8s
