Exclamation newbiee with a boost issue

whats goin on guys i am a nube but anywho so i have an 87 turbo i just bought on sunday with a turboetnics 60-1 with a "wild" street port 720cc injectors front and back custom exhaust light fly, aftermarket street/strip clutch, a new motor with about 3 k on it turbo has the same anyway to the point. i found that my ancient hks boost controler would not boost past about 8psi no matter what setting it was on(low is8,med=14, and high= 20) i found it had a vacuum . line disconnected under the hood once i re connected the line i was able to get full boost going however once i was at full boost which came on around 5k or so i would hit 5.5k on the tach and the car hits some form of rev limiter or something and begins violently backfiring (however if i disconnect the line it runs flawlessly@ 8psi but no higher) it sounds horrible. i do have an old(also hks) piggy back fuel only computer. any ideas guys? thanks

full boost is between 14 and 20 depending on what setting the controller is set at the car is running an original "hks pfc f-con" it is supposed to be properly tuned however without taking it to a shop and having them crack the fcon open and take a look i have no idea. i talked to my perf. guru he thinks it is either poorly gapped/bad plugs or a split in one of the vac. boost lines

You cant gap our car's plugs. Sounds like there is a lot more to this then just a vacume leak though. Also get it checked by a good tuner before you blow the engine.

The plugs designed to run in our cars and the same plugs you SHOULD be running are not gappable due to the design.

Not sure who is in houston, maybe Gotham?

Our plugs look like the one on the left. Stock FC's are supposed to run two different plugs also.....

You could check out the regional part of the forum and ask for a good shop in your area.

Good luck with your car.
