The New WRX...
between the new Subaru WRX and the S4 TII which is a better car?
I know it sounds like a dumb question but here is what I know right now...
The WRX is a 227 HP AWD Turbo matched with a six speed gearbox with very close gear ratios, rally inspired suspension, and a very good LSD, weighs around 2900 LBS and is a pretty damn good car.
Now as far as acceration, cornering, top speed and braking, which one of the two cars do you believe would perform best in each category? (dry road, no rain or snow) Thanks in advance...

thanks for the link but does anyone know the difference in cornering ability? As well as braking? just curious...
also, I thought that the 02 WRX had a five speed manual. The 03 WRX has a 6. That is bound to make a difference in the 1/4 mile time...

The WRX will edge out the RX7 in a drag simply due to the AWD grip at the launch. On the highway or drag, if both are modded, the 7 will most likely beat the WRX.
In the corners, it depends on who gets the better coilovers, tires, and suspension tuning

Nothing to see here.
I went to buy an '03 WRX a month ago. Fully loaded, they were asking over $26,000. The wife and I drove it around—great car. While walking around the lot, I told her that I had seen a "rare" 91 TII at the dealership across the street and they were asking $8000(!). I told her I could get it for $5000. So, for the price of my WRX downpayment, I got the mint condition '91 TII for $5000. Not that I can now spend $20000 on mods, but I believe I got a car that's comparable to the WRX in all aspects at less than 1/5th the price. It just takes time and research.

it's like comparing apples and oranges...4 door sedan vs. 2 door sports car, AWD vs. RWD, boxer vs. rotary. the WRX does not nearly posses the handling potential of the RX-7 (unless in foul weather) although power potential is impressive w/ either motor. for an everyday car the WRX is a better choice, but if you already have a sedan the RX-7 is a no-brainer. the main problem is comparing a new car to a 12 year old one. unless each car is completely modded (where most equipment on the car is changed) it's not a fair comparison. I love my RX-7 but at this time of year (like this morning w/ all the snow on LI) I really miss my GVR4 (getting another 4G63, blew rings in the last one).

I guess I may be a little biased on this one since my friend almost KILLED me in that damned wrx of his but, my series 4 TII w/ down pipe, Mid Pipe and intake raped his 02 wrx on the highway, and we were neck and neck if not, me winning on twisties...he was a little upset lol. Hope that helps

Dude its defetly like comparing apples to oranges. Look your comparing two cars that are almost cmpletly diffrent except that there both relativly fast.
The WRX is a brand new car, all new technology, 4 door sedan, awd, cost 24,000 and i dont think can be considered a spots car.
Our 2nd gen Rx7's are around 15 years old cost up to $8 grand at the most, are 2 door sport cars, rear wheel drive, rotary powered beauties.
This is how i look at it. The WRX is an all season car good for snow, rain, sleet, mud, basiclly a mix of a sports car and an all season car. Good for ppl that only want one car.
The Rx7 is a very affordable sports car. Its super fun, you can get faster than most cars easily with a lot less than 24 grand, but would not have the advatage of an all wheel drive system in the winter.
So if you have the money and are not in love with Rx7's like most of us are and want a super fun car to use all season then get the WRX
I personally wanted both, so i own 2 cars
honda in the winter
TII in the summer
still spent less than 24k

I already know that I am getting a seven, I was just curious because a friend of mine is getting a new WRX. These posts make me just a little more confident that I chose the right car, to be my favorite car. Thanks for the information.

The WRX is a great all around car. If you need a daily driver I'd go with the WRX. Buy the stage 0 kit from Vishnu Performance for an extra 40+ hp for about $1000. BTW the WRX is heavier than 2900lbs it's closer to 3200. For 24K i'd buy a good condition 98-01 RS (2750lbs) swap in the EJ20T motor and buy the RX7 too!

First off, I have owned both a 02 WRX and an 88 'vert for the past year. I can't really comment on the horsepower differences but as far as handling goes they are both great cars but meant for different things. WRX is all smiles ripping around town and AWD makes for lots of fun in inclement weather. RX-7 is much more stable at high speeds. The two platforms are too different to judge together in my opinion. It really comes down to driver preference (AWD vs. FR) and practicality (do you like the option to take some friends with you? Snow?). The only category that you could compare them in is BRAKING. The stock brakes on the WRX suck compared to the FC.
