wrx is talkin smack, should i...

This kid with a wrx who is brag master 2k thinks his car is complete badass. Its a stock wrx and he keeps sayin my car is a peice of **** and 'I eat RX7S for breakfast'.

what the hell ever. After i swap in the turbo, should i go and whomp his ***? before i race i'd have a custom TID, 3"DP, 2.5" MP (need to upgrade), 3" cat-back, SAFC, Fuel pump, FCD.

what do u think?

Well, it is in the US, so it shouldn't matter, the 02 and 03 are the same power level and weight.

Anyway, WRX pretty much stock run a 13.5-14.1, So you will have trouble with just a turbo swap in a second gen. And he will kill you off the line..

Now, from a roll, with a TII motor and your mods, you should have no problem..

buzzzzzzzzzz, wrong! The absolutely fastest time I've seen from a wrx is a 14.1. Most people pull low - mid 14's bone stock. It's a great car and I love them to death, but they aren't that fast.

Check the sig, that time is with a 3'' dp/mp and a TID
max boost was maybe 9 pounds in fourth. With the mods you have/will have on the car, you will have absolutely no problem raping the poor ej20. Yes he probably will get you in first, and maybe even hang on in second. When third comes around it's bye bye time.

Well, i have to say you are wrong, and need to learn to read..

A BONE stock WRX will run a 14.1 which is on the scale i showed.. And with a simple MBC and k&n panal air filter, i have seen them hit 13.5+ 1/4 mile times..

So for a PRETTY much stock WRX will run 13.5-14.1 is pretty accurate..

And just cause you think he is stock doesn't mean he is 100% stock. most WRXs on the road i see have an MBC.

PS. I also happen to own one.

Oh, and i have seen a bone stock WRX hit a 13.8, but that is not very common.

Make it even. its a year old AWD car vs. a 15 or so year old RWD car. Put him up against an FD, er '95ish and he'll get raped so bad his sister will feel it!

I smoked a wrx with only exhaust and intake on my tII. plus he only got me by about half a car length off the line, and he was bouncing off rev limit when he launched it. Once we hit about 50mph or so drive train losses got the best of him. I dont think they launch as hard as some other awd cars that I've raced, like 1st gen talon's. If you can drive, you shouldn't have much trouble.

a MBC != stock!!! I'm well aware of how well the wrx, and all turbo cars, take to very cheap mods. I've also heard of a ls1 running 12.9's stock. However that is the exception and not the rule. I've seen many, many wrx's run at HRP. Overall I wasn't very impressed. Maybe every driver just wasn't up to par. They are quick cars, but a STOCK wrx is not going to hang with a t2 with full intake and exhuast unless there are some serious driver issues.

The consensus of 14.1-14.6 seems right in my book. But everyone has a different scale they go by.

i know its stock cuz its this guy i know.

*edit* he got it ~a month ago and he's not a 'spirited' driver. he just thinks its badass because he's used to slow *** trucks and he beats hondas all the time...what a way to be a big man *edit*

If i forgot to meantion, this is a S5 turbo, and im giong to be running ~12lbs. If he's lucky i wont have at least a manual boost controller by then.

Aren't awd cars a bitch to get a good launch in?

I thought that with an AWD car unless you have mad skills you can't launch very well at all.

I think I remember reading that you need to get the rpms up just enough to spin the tires a little.. too much and it slows the car when it grabs and too little the car doesn't have enough torque...

anyone want to confirm/deny?

That is not a good way to launch a WRX. It is slower and will destry the tranny..

Driver makes up for alot. All in all i say it will probably be a close race if they guy knows how to drive. But he probably doesn't.

Hell most people probably think my WRX is stock, but it isn't. course i never try to race people either.

Since the car is 15 years old that makes it slow?? If anything I consider older sports cars to be faster due to lack of extra crap that come with new cars.

An stock FD will not rape a WRX, in fact it would be pretty close.

By the way I think youll win off the line if you get a good launch, because chances are he wont get a good launch. If you race him from a roll you will win.

Heres the best part.

First you spank his WRX, then after the race, you walk up to him and you say:

"haha and to think you paid $25,000 for that!">

If a stock FD puts out more horse than a TII with exhaust and intake, then i dont see how if a TII can beat a WRX, then an FD would just be "Close"

A TII with intake, full exhuast, and a good driver will keep up if not beat a wrx stock. Stock for stock its hands down WRX. -Gabe

I'm starting to feel like people are underestimating the FC. Yes it's old, and outdated. Yes it's not the prettiest cars around either. However most FD's are going to be running high 13's stock. A wrx is going to be in the low 14's assuming it's a decent driver (on average wrx ****)
With full intake and exhuat on a t2 you should be deep into the 13's....

As far as stock for stock, I will def. attest to that. My car is currently all stock in an attempt to pass emissions. It feels slow. Very slow. I can take a nap between shifts slow but then I guess that's what happens when your car goes from high 13's to low 15's lol

The FD and FC are two different cars. His FC with his mods should beat if he drives it good. An FC can be made fast with a few mods like exhaust, which he has.

A stock FD runs high 13s/low 14s. A WRX runs low/mid 14s stock. So it would be close in a drag race. That is if both drivers drive perfect, which we all know this doesnt always happen.

EDIT: oops, I thought you had a TII

I just ran one this morning..same punk that likes to vent his blowoff valve, but I haven't been able to line up with him.

Heading to work it was about 50 degrees out and he was right behind me as I made a right turn onto a 4 laner. He was on the inside and I was holding at about 3500 in 2nd gear in the third lane with a car between us. As soon as I saw him start to even up I mashed it, ran out 2nd and clobbered him. I also ran out most of 3rd just for some added hurt.

This guy's had it coming....

Has anyone even dynoed a TII conversion? I'd be interested in seeing what the number are. His N/A to turbo conversion may be enough to beat the WRX, but it will require those mods. I'm not sure what the launch RPM of the WRX is but once someone has got it mastered it'll be tough to beat off the line. I concur with a rolling-start win. I've driven the WRX and it "feels" very quick on the launch. I think I'd need to mod my 91 stock TII to contend.
