new rx smokes

my bro just bought a white 86 na with 125k on it. it runs strong and sounds nice. doesnt have coolant problems, we have checked all that out. i was following him in my car and noticed that it smokes(looks like oil) when its at 5-7k rpm. i told him that it could just be a worn engine but he wanted me to ask you guys. my dad said that it could be a vaccuum leak but i dont see how. any help would be great.

if it's smoking during acceleration i would say ck PCV valve first and if it's fine then the oil metering pump. if you get smoke on deccel then i would say oil control rings in the engine.

I have the same problem and would like to know some solutions. I just put a 3" catback on and its kinda annoying when the smoke pours out.

It's your oil seals.... There just worn, and your engine is looking for a rebuild

Could be wrong... But that is my best guess for both of you.

i would say oil control seals on the rotors. not a huge deal. just monitor your oil and keep it full. the control seals get hard, they don't seal and oil gets past them.

Here is the "fix for that"..........

Steps to follow.

#1. Change your oil, put in 20w50 or straight 50 wieght, take off your radiator cap and check fluid, replace cap.
#2. Buy cd-2 (in silver bottle) put in the engine while running
#3. Drive around for 15 mins let the seals get good and doused by the treatment
#4. Let the car sit overnight
#5. Take it out the next day, let it warm up fully
#6 Floor it up to about 7k and check you reAR view mirror
#7. If it still smokes buy some "bardhdalls" no smoke.
#8. Pour it in while engine is running then repeat steps 3-6.

If this doesnt work then you are about of luck, it really probably needs a rebuild, seals can get brittle and this procedure WILL soften then back up, i would repeat this every oil change, and make sure your oil level is always correct.

good luck

I have found them both at walmart, or autozone, the cd-2 is about $3 and the bardhalls is $4. It is worth the $7

You may not need to do it every oil change, after the seals get to where they "seal" again running thick oil will ususally keep the smoke under wraps. Maybe 2-3 oil changes with the treatment then try it without for a couple, see what works for you.

Not with "stop leak" just the normal bardahl. The regular stuff really just thickens the oil, it should leave No deposits. Especially if you do the h20 trick every 6 months...

Yeah, it's pretty thick!!!! But it'll hold him over untill he gets ready to rebuild. Whatever you do don't get the "stop leak" stuff from barhdal it'll make a chore outta changingthe oil.

Kinda makes you wonder what it would do to a turbo/oil lines.

Everyone says that and it's so easy to say....but he can squeeze some more miles outta her i know it. The trick is to do so without letting it get to bad where you end up loosing an apex seal nand scouring the housings.....I agree though, start svaing for a rebuild, you will need one later...but for now try what i said and drive it....
