Angry Need Help Fellas

I need some help...its been a while since i've post anything on this website but as we all know there's alot of brains that operate in here.

Ok I have a little problem with my transmission making a clicking sound. Its a 90 RX7 GTU N/A.

Ok here's the detail: when I turn the engine on the car runs just fine but there's a constant clicking noise about a steady 5 sec between clicks.

But the question is when I press down on the clutch with the car in neutral the clicking noise goes away? When release the noise comes back? hmm..

So I figure it might be the clutch so I went and bought a clutch kit.

I just finish replacing the clutch and all the bearing and the pressure plate in the transmission. Thinking that it would fix the problem but nope I was wrong. I started the car up and it still does this clicking sound can someone help me? I can't seem to figure this out! I really do appreciate it!

How sure are you that it's actually the tranny making the sound?

What kind of shape was the pilot bearing in?

Any loose hardware on the heat shields down there?

Still have the ACV on the car?

What kind of shape was the tranny front cover pivot "ball" for the fork arm in?

Everything looks good as new man...I'm just kinda pissed right now and can't figure it out!

Damn engine was rebuilt earlier has about 4k on it! Tranny was rebuilt about a yr and a half ago...what can it be?

I'm thinking about selling it for cheap now!

Is "clicking" actually the best term to use for the sound?

Could it be something akin to a relay or solenoid sound, or is it more like a metal-on-metal sound?

Did this happen all at once, or was it something that "matured" over time?

Anything done to the car right before the problem started?

My head is hurting man trying to figure this out...please help me!

And it clicks the entire time the clutch is engaged?

And the frequency of the clicking doesn't change with relative engine or car speeds?

the clicking noise only occurs when the clutch is not pressed! When the clutch is press the noise goes away.

No it seems like the clicking is a steady type click.

why not put the car up on jack stands, start it, let it run long enough to start making the "clicking noise" and climb underneath it and verify EXACTLY where it's coming from? You should be able to tell pretty easily whether it's coming from the transmission, bell-housing area (where the clutch resides) or the engine bay area.. . then we can help a little better

Except where its only when the clutch *isn't* pressed in... Otherwise yeah

I say throwout bearing, wich would spin until the input shaft stopped spinning ( when the clutch is depressed ).

For a quick test, start driving. Get up to 5th cruising. Now downshift as though you're going to engine brake, but instead shift into neutral. Let the clutch out.

Now after a couple seconds if the noise stops, its your throw out bearing.

Keep in mind though, then when you're in neutral moving, the pilot bearing is doing its job... it might be easy to get the sounds of the two bearings confused if they are both bad.

Basicaly, clutch in noise: pilot bearing
cloutch out noise: throwout bearing

EDIT: then again, maybe you just need to check the fluid level of the tranny :P

Actually... are their any relays near there? That clcking sound, would be the exact sound of a relay not getting correct voltage... loads the coil, and clicks when it doesn't have enough power to keep it open. Maybe the low-voltage fuel relay, isn't that right above the steering column? Maybe somehow mazda rigged the clutch switch to drop the fuel voltage down to 9volts when the clutch is pressed in.

Its a long shot, but an outof the box idea.

Oops, read it wrong, that's right. i've been working on my 7 for 2 days getting it running, and I'm exhausted. I broke down twice yesterday and once today, and it made my life tiring. I blew off a IC coupler, my alternator took a crap, and I blew a tire today. So yes, I'm fairly exhausted, lol..

I had an s6 alternator for awhile. I toasted that thing on the UIM. It didn't have a good pulley either and did nothing but chew belts. The fc has been happy with its lower power s5 alternator :/ I know how that goes though. My buddy just backed into my fender tonight when we finished up installing a flexplate on his camaro. We were both exhausted and he was excited to test drive. Anyhow, I already had one bad fender, so its motivating me to at least fix both of them now. Ordered some widebodies.

I agree, long freaking weekend.

Looks like its something inside the transmission guys...I'll probably have to get another tranny. Do anyone know where I can get a decent one? Thanks
