Just lower the sub frame enough to slide the diff out. No need to remove the sub frame.

The studs are welded to the car.

Use a pry bar or something. Once you take the nuts off the studs the diff should come down, if not you need to pry it off.

The two studs you're talking about on the diff are what mounts the diff mount to the subframe. There is a small plate under the nuts you took off and once removed the diff can slide upwards out of the two slots.

S4 or S5 the mounts will be the same.

Welded diffs are awesome. I used to race with a guy who has a SR20DET 240sx with a welded diff. That car could grip, drift, whatever you want and he daily drove with no problems.

Are you installing solid diff and subframe mounts? If not you will break the diff mounting tab off the subframe at some point.

I don't know about grip... My friend with a welded diff just went straight while trying to hit a corner. Understeer's a bitch when your rear tires just want to push you in a straight line.

That sounds like a mismatched tire problem or driver error, I'd driven plenty of welded rear cars and they were all fine.

Yeah, I'd def get some delrin mounts + a mazda competition front diff mount. Pulling the subframe multiple times sucks ***. Ask me how I know this.

I found that when pulling the whole subframe out, you need to put it back up evenly. You can't bold the rear of the diff in then put the subframe in. It won't line up no matter what you do. Get a few jacks + a buddy if you can. That will make life super easy.

OH! Don't forget a pinion snubber if you're making some more HP than stock.

should be cool, while your at it hit up pep boys and get a suspension bump stop *aka pinion snubber what some people call it * and put it above where the diff will go , requiring you to drill a hole but thats it.

a shop jack works great on this i did mine by myself, just drop teh whole subframe if you havent, its easier then trying to squeeze the diff up in there. then use the shop jack to lift it all up in .
