need help! compasitor, resistor?? on the oil filter base

i have a s5 n/a gxl and we just put a clutch in and everything went good and she fired right up. but the check engine light came on so we got to lookin in the engine bay and found a little black box that has the wire pulled out of it, on the oil filter base whear the oilf filter screws on
does any1 know what this is and it purpose??
will this throw a engine light
and whear would be the best place to get a new 1

That sounds like the condenser ground for the oil pressure sender- it's usually attached under the clutch slave, but could technically be attached anywhere that's a ground (i.e., the block, body, etc.). I bought a replacement one from RotaryResurrection when I found mine was only hanging on by a few strands of wire since he's got a whole bunch of spares of stuff like that.

Probably the condensor for the oil pressure sender (although that is normally mounted near the clutch slave cyl).

and it will not cause a check engine light, however it will prevent the oil pressure gauge from burning out if the sender goes bad.

well the oil pressure gauge works fine, would that cause it to not work?

only if the sender goes bad... then without the condensor, the genie will escape form the gauge (it will burn up/smoke).
