Sticking the battery in backwards can fry a lot of things. The ecu will probably be toasted and require replacement, which could be why you're seeing all sorts of odd instrument cluster behavior.

You've more than likely blown more than just the Main engine fuse. Check ALL your fuses just to make sure they're all good. I also wouldn't be surprised if your ECU did happen to get a little cooked, although I'd check a lot of other stuff before I assumed it did, cars have failsafe's for stuff like that.

well i highly doubt ecu would get fried because of the backwards battery incident
its on a different harness
plus my idiot cluster would not show or anything because 150amps against a 30amp would just blow
so yeah

any ideas

I would be very very surprised if you didn't smoke the ECU if you tried to start the car with the battery hooked up backwards.

And you have a bad headlight switch... (which also could be damaged from hooking up the battery backwards).

And your thread title sucks. Post a real title describing your problem when you post threads... not some lame *** title like that you need help. You probably wouldn't be posting if you didn't need help... so why are you using that as a thread title?

Dude, you really messed the car up, bad. I can't believe you managed to hurt the car so bad.

Why are you writing in prose?

^ You're writing in prose. He's writing in verse. "Prose" basically means "not poetic at all". Ok, I'm nitpicking.

OP: This has come up before. Do a forum search to find out everything you might have fried. Start testing.

+1 to everything said in last 2 posts. Dude...

The previous owner of my car did the same thing replacing the battery right before he sold it to me. I drove up and he was fiddling under the hood. He complained the main fuse kept blowing and wondered if I could help. We righted the battery connections and all was good except the main fuse and the "floor" fuse in the cabin fuse box. Car runs fine. I guess I got lucky eh?

How can so many people manage to hook the battery up backwards? Really. I want to know. The stock battery box & cable lengths shouldn't even make it possible.
