first off,

check your battery cables/ connections

2 check the voltage at the battery.
you should have over 12.5 volts.
if you don't put a charger on it

does it make any noises when you try to start it?

So the car looses power as soon as you turn the key to start?

That's a classic case of bad battery cables or a dead battery. Make sure to not only check the cables where they connect to the battery, but also the major grounds ( http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/grounding.htm ).

I dont know about the FC (will find out tomorrow at work) but most modern starters are permanent magnets. Hitting them with hammers will more then likely break the magnets. Now, it can work and get you past the dead spot in the starter, but you will deff need to replace the starter ASAP. IF thats your issue.

OK. Try jumping the solenoid to +12V to verify the starter works and is receiving power.

If the starter works, then put a voltmeter on the solenoid wire in the engine bay and then try to crank the car. You should see 12V for as long as the key is in the START position.

If you don't see 12V, then the issue is with the ignition switch or the clutch switch.

Crank no start. Air or fuel or spark. OR the big ugg, no compression. Time to get a Factory Service Manual and start troubleshooting bro.
