here some advice... SEARCH ... been discussed countless times, tons of stuff on free and cheap mods everywhere including the archives, and a little something for people in the faq.
if you search around the forum you will find countless hours of reading material.
hope this helps.

the biggest bang for your buck is in the exhaust. if you live in a non-smog area, a full exhaust setup can net you a 28% increase in hp. if you need to pass smog, a cat back system (everything after the catalytic converters) will still make a difference.
next most common mod would be a new filter. there are two schools of thought here, drop in a replacement filter into you airbox, or replace with a cone. the reason replacing with a cone filter isn't the most obviously better of the two is that it will draw in hot air from the engine bay without a box. i went with cone, as i intend to someday build my own airbox around it.
if you are somewhat mechanically inclined, or know someone who can help yuo, the next cheapest bang for buck power mod would be upgrading to the series 5 (89-91) variable dynamic intake (vdi). this uses pulses from the intake to improve flow at higher rpm's. a valve is actuated by the air pump, and this makes it shift from low rpm flow to high rpm flow. the parts needed for this are relatively cheap if found used, and include the s5 upper intake manifold, and the dynamic chamber. i've never done this, but i've heard 5-8 hp? and that it really comes on at 5000 rpm.
