This is actually the E6Tuner demo running on my car, with my lcd (lilliput 7") gauge cluster installed and running on a p100 junk laptop in 640x480... also has the TechEdge 2A0 wideband connected and active, the afr gauge data is coming from the wideband.

How are you doing this? is your standalone hooked up to the notebook, and you have your notebook plugged into the dash guage?
What do all those bargraphs represent, what does the one with all the green bars represent?

Are you the one who got this from your girlfriend or whatever, or she installed it for you? where did you buy it?

Ok, theres a notebook computer behind the passenger seat. It's connected to the haltech e6k via the serial port, it's also connected to the techedge 2a0 wideband controller via a pcmcia add-on serial card. The notebook also has a ps2 keyboard connected that sits on my lap, between the driver/passenger seat where the armrest normally goes, or behind the drivers seat when it's just not needed. The 7" lcd panel is installed in what was a stock gauge cluster, epoxy, body filler, etc... and is connected to the laptop via a simple svga extension cable. The lcd panel has a plain old 12v->12v voltage regulator for powering it, as it's designed to run off 12vdc in the first place so nothing exotic was needed.

The photograph is of the tuning page in the software, it's a fuel map, 2d mode, 1000rpm range. The X axis of the bar graph is vacuum, high vacuum (light load) is on the left, atmo is far right (heavy load), the height of the individual bars is injection duration in ms. Simply selecting bars with the keyboard and hitting increment/decrement keys will alter the fuel maps in realtime. I can hit tab any time to switch pages, there are pages for tuning, datalogging, diagnostic gauges (all data sources displayed at once) and driving gauges (circular simulated analog gauges).

My girlfriend didnt have anything to do with the panel, I think that was someone else who posted recently, though they too had a cool looking setup, I look forward to seeing pictures/videos of their setup in action.

you get an A for effort and general geekyness with electronics... most lunkheads wouldnt be able to figure out how to run a LCD in a seperate location from the laptop....

Now...... Just don't wrap yourself around a tree while watching your Haltech readout instead of the road!!!

Have you ever seen a Haltech E6K in action? All of the data you have on a E6K in engine data page are available as gauges in the software.

gauges available:
engine speed (rpm)
manifold pressure
air temp
coolant temp
ignition advance btdc
throttle position
road speed (speedometer)
volts
inj ms
inj duty cycle
o2 loop enrichment (when in closed loop)
barometric pressure
AFR / afmv (this is either from the afmv on the e6k or the wbo2 input on the techedge)


The techedge also has 3 extra generic analog inputs and 3 EGT inputs, I have not finished wiring them up yet but I have 2 EGT probes installed in my header which will have gauges eventually, and I have to wire my fuel level sender into the techedge analog inputs, along with my oil pressure sender (some generic sunpro electric sender is installed already).

I also still have to wire up the electronic road speed sensor, so for now the E6K always reports 0 for road speed.... just needs to be wired up. I have so much to do, so little time.

I don't remember seeing anything like that on the E6K (or E6X), but I have seen that on the E11, and I wouldn't really consider it a suitable way to display what you need to see whilst driving, especially on that little screen. Note that I'm pretty sure an odometer is a legal requirement too.

How about a pic of what you intend to display?

Which should be obvious if you watched the videos of the stuff in action and have seen the DOS software in use.

And yes, the DOS software had all that data visible in the engine data page, it just wasnt very usable in that form... I'm a programmer so this is what happened. Only the TechEdge provided data is lacking in the DOS software.

And for the supposed legal requirement, a odometer is possible to add, I control the software... I hold the copyright and all the source code. If I feel it is necessary to add an odometer using the road speed input, I will.

Though ... to make a point, catalytic converters are required by the law, and by federal EPA laws in the US, essentially any alteration to the emissions system is also illegal. I'm running a standalone engine management system on a catless ported wankel....

Now ask me if I care if the law requires an odometer. I would find a trip meter useful, so I'm more likely to add a trip meter than a long-term odometer. Anyone want to point out to me that every other mod on the car is also illegal?

Okay, just watched the vids (didn't have time to download before). That looks pretty cool. How clear is it while driving? Some of the numbers look pretty small, but looks like you have room to make them bigger.

Yeah, the fonts are too small, this is the demo version running that is available to anyone, it tries to approximate/guess font sizes based on the selected resolution, so it ends up with a compromise. In the full version which I will obviously be running you can customize the layout of the gauges, including defining font sizes for everything.

I just wanted to use what was available to everyone to kinda give a demonstration while showing off the spiffy lcd panel. Later I will show it all tweaked for my setup.

and yeah it's pretty clear while driving, the fonts need to be larger for that setup but it's not bad, with some fine tuning it will be very nice.

The beta/demo only supports E6K. I have E6X support partially there, it just needs to be completed & tested, the full version when it comes out will probably support the E6X also.

you dont read guages, you look at the relative positions of the needles. this is why the 80's digital guages dont work, because you actually do have to read them

Will you be incorporating an audible alert system? Something that can be set at user defined parameters.

I don't monitor my guages constantly, and as fast as some failurs occur, an auduble alert may save an engine.

Though I would expect to have it at least readable @ a glance, I think it's worth noting that the gauge ranges don't change as you drive. You familiarize yourself with the setup and from that point on you are capable of approximating what the values are by simple relative positions.

This is true and I understand that, but whether you realise it or not you are reading the numbers when you glance at gauges. The brain can receive and interpret images faster than many realise, even though you're not consciously trying to read the actual numbers. I'm sure that if you took the numbers (not the scale) off the face of a guage you were very familiar with you would find it much harder to read.

My point is, the comment "you don't read gauges" was pretty silly. You don't just "look at the relative positions of the needles". You are reading the numbers.
