check out my new intake. we cut the stock throttle body elbow and used fiberglass and a saw to make the stock air intake tube go to a "new" spot in the engine bay.

i'm sure several people on here have done this, but its a wonder why more people havent... anyways, we thought it was a pretty good idea.

Looks like it got rid of some pipe length between the AFM and TB. How does it drive?

feels like a little more top end, but no MAJOR improvements.

I must be missing something, is it supposed to get more (cold) airflow back there? I'm not seeing any advantage. A cold airbox in the front seems like a more worth while project.

maybe there's not really an advantage... but the whole point was to have a somewhat short-ram intake (atleast shorter than stock) and be able to easily make a box to isolate the filter from the hot engine bay.

the fiberglass will be sanded down (we havent sanded it yet, just spray painted it) and then repainted so it wont look like a big tumor. the bottom line right now is that it is sealed and the car runs fine. i will worry about cleaning it up later.

more of our fiberglassing adventure

there is a hose frm where the cruise control was... it probably wont supply MUCH air, but maybe a little.

they didn't do it because that's a friggin' DINKY hole where the cruise control motor goes. I've removed mine trust me I know, it's like a 2" hole.

The back edge of the hood, where it meets the windshield, is a high pressure area.
If you put a reverse scoop inlet or louvers there you will get cold ram air!

I've been told intakes back there are known to result in blown engines, though I can't figure out how this would occur. Maybe bits of intake getting sucked in?

I've thought about doing this with a scoop, still might, but dunno if I wanna put a hole in my hood back there. Wouldn't be any good if I ever went turbo.

Anyway, good job.

i have a quick question, you say are running without the afm? are u running stand alone?, whats the deal, i wanna take mine out!!

ive seen this be4 an it does look kool with a scope. someone a long time ago did this to, an the whole thing about not good for the engine might be true because i havent seen him on the forum ever since..

im not saying doing this mod will make your engine blow, but i THINK his did, but maybe it wasnt because of the mod, no one knows...

if you look closely at his hood in the pics u can see he was in the process of the scope, i was really considering this mod, jus gotta work on some other stuff first tho.
