My engine is dying...what to do for replacement?

Well, I have 140,000 miles on my car now. I bought it at 118,000 for $3700 in great condition. The coolant seals started to go out on me about 2 weeks ago, losing some coolant every couple days. I went to get my oil changed the day before my birthday and leaving to visit my parents in Florida, and there was coolant in the oil. I had suspected my coolant seals because I was losing coolant the few days before that, so now I think I'm sure that's what is going on.

So...it's time to decide what to do for a replacement motor. The options I'm looking at are buying GothicBlade's 1989 T2 motor because he totalled his car on Christmas day, and I'm also looking at taking my car to a shop and telling them to rebuild my motor with a street port.

If I go with the T2 motor, I need an ECU, clutch? (I just got a new CF DF a couple weeks ago, but it's for N/A.), tranny, driveshaft, differential, halfshafts, and a lot of my labor to do the swap which I don't really have time to do until this summer.

If I go with the rebuild and streetport of my motor, and let the shop take it out, rebuild it, and put it back in, and I'm done.

How much will each of these options realistically cost me?

I know that the T2 motor has more potential than a street ported N/A, but I rather like the fact that I don't have to wait for the boost to come in.

What should I do?

About a year ago, I read on the big list to use JB Radiator Stop Leak to slow down the engine's death from the coolant seals going out, so I put that in when I changed my oil, and it worked. My radiator has stayed full for about 250 miles so far (my girlfriend has been driving it around while I'm in Florida), and that's about 220 miles longer than it was lasting before I put it in, so I think that's a good thing, no?

Thank you.

well, if you're patient enough i'd go for the T2 swap. kabooski has that large thread in the archive section for the how to. would jef card have extra time to help? i'm sure he's super knowledgable in the transition

i'm sure the streetport would be fast, but don't you even lose low end torque in a streetported n/a? (and gain a shitload in the upper rpms?) you talked about lag of boost but my T2's boost kicks in around 2500 and pulls like mad after that. in my n/a its not till 5K when i start to feel power! LOL

i guess i'd wanna talk to people who have done the swap and get their pro's/cons of it. if its too much trouble then just go for the streetport...

If I were to go with the T2 swap, Jef Card could help as long as I do it before August, because that's when the contract is up for our apartment, and I'm not sure what his plans are for where to live. He and BuddyRX7 are currently in the process of doing a T2 swap on BuddyRX7s vert, so they should both know what it takes by the time I'm in need of an engine. The only reason I'm not helping is that I'm in Florida visiting my parents for now, and they might be done with it when I get back.

Does anyone know realistically the differences in cost between the two options I'm looking at? Thanks.

If they have them. I just looked at their Web site, and I would almost be willing to bet they don't deal with rotaries. You can get them from fc3s.org for $850.

Thanks. I sent them an email. It looks like pretty much either way I go it will be about $2000.

Trust me.....

I would gladly pay $2000 to them before ANYONE else.

Thes guys have somthing better than the guarantee of a new engine, they have an attitude that I promise will produce an engine of such high quality that you WILL be impressed.

I have had MANY conversations with "Skip" thier engine guy, and all I know is that the market can afford to pay him what he's worth when it comes to how he does his job.

If his attitude tward rotary engines is any indicator, you will receive an engine that is BETTER than new.

Put together with a level of care that is nearly impossible to find.

I plan on obtaining ALL my engines from this guy in the future.
I am currently working on a "crate motor" project in my spare time with him and when I get more time, I'll begin the construction of the engine with an eye tward mass production.

I wouldn't have attempted this with anyone but someone like Skip.
