Hmm, so it's a cat problem? If you don't want a straight pipe, you can buy aftermarket replacements. Bonez is supposed to be good, besides that I dunno. If you want a straight pipe but don't want to weld you can buy bolt-on straight pipe. Plus welds can fail. I also hear you can gut the cats and then just put them back in, but I dunno.

And do the cooling seal tests before believing people and paying a ton of money for unnecessary work. Especially now that it seems like your cats are the real cause.

its actually my car. every time i start the car up, it dies after the cold start. i checked the coolant a couple nights ago and it was boiling. =( so i'm assuming i have to replace the seals as well. and the cats glow pretty bright.

ya i have no doubt his seals are cooked... but if he can at least move it around for the time being, that'd be better.

ok, didn't hollow out his cats, but i separated the pipe enough so that it sounds like a chainsaw... probably about 1/2" gap, still no power, should i fully disconnect it or would that do the job? it is a pain in the *** to get his emissions stuff out cause the entire cat system is permanently bolted together

The only way to truly test it, would be to cut it before the cats and drive it around the block...
Can you weld? If so, this is a cake walk. If not, yeah it could be a big PITA

only thing we could really do would be to drop the cat system and drive it open manifold, haha.

I've had three seals go out on me.. the first two still had the same power as before but the radiator cap kept leaking out the fluid to the res. but the third one the car's top speed was around 70 with the wind. To prevent this type of thing don't go past half throttle or 3800RPM (secondaries kick in) til it's warmed up to the fullest... I learned this the hard way... my Ex-girlfriend was with her boy friend and I showed them what a real car was but the engine was only on for 20-25 seconds... the seal broke and a huge plume of whight smoke came out, it filled the parking lot :-). It was a smoke show for sure... but it was not the one I had in mind... Dang that day just was not mine thats for sure.
