cheap mufflers will NOT holt up for long on a rotary powered vehicle. most RX-7 owners use Racing Beat as a primary source for exhaust options. cheap mufflers will either split or the packing will be burned away.

the exhaust temp from a normal running rx7 will burn the packing those mufflers have.
An rx7 makes 200-400F more heat then a piston engine.

This is 90% of the reason fc owners get hated on. Because people won't spend the money to do the job right and instead opt for the cheaper and low quality option. Which results in a bad image for all.

RB doesn't claim to boost your hp by 60%. The RB Rev TII for turbo cars claims a 60hp increase over stock. This is true because the stock setup is extremely restrictive.

On an NA car they don't list an hp gain because it is very hard to determine.

actually, they will, or at least close to that much. The reason that they add 60 HP is because of how restrictive the stock exhaust is. On an S4 the stock boost is 5psi, but as soon as you open up the exhaust, it jumps to ~11psi. Of course that 60hp is probably on a perfect condition motor, with fuel management, but its still a major part of the equation.

but hey, if you think you know so much, then you don't need anyone's help here.

if you want quality and quiet go with racing beat.
You can also go with corksport, though its not as quiet.
Or you can with an Apexi N1 system, either dual or single.

Or you can just custom the exhaust with whatever choice your muffler needs are.

Even though I love the Racing Beat exhaust, there are other options as the Wise One up above said!(good stuff!).
I've heard some good results with Borla XR1(that correct?).
Using them as a Presilencer if you will, and then going to Walker Mufflers.
It all depends on your Taste really..but any Cheapo Muffler with the fiberglass packing,or Madly made with Cheap welding and poor seems, won't last long.
I've had Racing Beat on the Car for 3 years now.If you take into account that you will be replacing the Exhaust if you cheap out on the Mufflers, then it Becomes a good investment.
Remember if you are gonna be beating on the car, that is gonna take a toll on the exhaust. The high temps will Factor in and Destroy a Crappy 75 dollar Ebay Can.So,if you end up replacing that, you end up paying Double. The RB Universal Muffler is about that..Fabricate a Single exhaust with a RB Uni,and Bam!..Good Exhaust, that will hold up on a Cheap budget.
Oh ..and "Muffs"?..isn't that another Word for P***Y???(figure that out?!)..they'd burn out too..!Ouch!

Yes on the Borla XR-1. I used to run one on my old NA bridge setup and also used one on a big single 3rotor.

There was one guy on the forum that blew one apart though... forget who that was.

OMG! I totally read "I was told that cheap muffs wouldn't smell" at first... I think that says more about me then about the topic though.

I could sense the fail pouring off this thread when I scrolled by it...

You want close to stock with less backpressure, get RB.
You want loud, get Corksport.
You want big ol' rice cans, get N1.

The game.

He's not asking about a cat-back, he's asking about muffflers.
